Chief Purpose of this Position:

The Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine is seeking a Term Teaching & Research mid‑career faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in quantitative genetics and bioinformatics to grow a research program, contribute significantly to our teaching mission, and collaborate with faculty across the university.

Position Responsibilities

Research: Develop a robust and externally funded research program. You will be expected to produce high‑impact publications and collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to enhance the department's research portfolio.

Teaching: Contribute significantly to didactic and lab courses. Responsibilities include serving as a course director, shaping program curriculum, and mentoring graduate students and post‑docs.

Service: Participate in departmental, college, and university committees. You will also serve the broader scientific community in a professional capacity, such as a journal reviewer or conference organizer.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

A PhD or equivalent degree with training in statistical, behavioral, or computational genetics/genomics.

A clear and compelling research agenda with a strong history of external funding. Your research should complement and expand existing expertise within the department.

Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

Statistical Genetics: Experience with molecular genetics/genomics/epigenomics, population genetics, bioinformatics, multi‑ancestry genomics, genetic variant curation, and statistical methods development. Experience with emerging technologies like single‑cell sequencing and chromatin conformation is also preferred.

Classical Genetics: Proficiency in twin and family modeling within a structural equation modeling (SEM) framework (e.g., OpenMx). Experience with multivariate modeling, longitudinal/developmental modeling, and working with both continuous and ordinal data is highly valued.

Computational Genetics: Skills in clinical informatics, genomic data science, multi‑omic analyses, biostatistical methods, machine learning, and AI. The ability to develop reproducible pipelines using high‑performance computing and coding in Python, R, or other computational languages is a plus.

Teaching: Significant experience teaching graduate level courses, demonstrative innovative in course/lecture design, and evidence of substantial contributions training graduate and/or post‑doc students.
