Wells Enterprises This individual is responsible for building capability (machines and people) for Wells DICP Analytical Lab and establishing true analytical capabilities consistent with the company's growing needs. Individual is responsible for day-to-day oversight of specific analyses and operation of standard analytical instrumentation. Develops, maintains, and validates analytical methods and testing. Takes initiative and develops novel approaches to product and ingredient analysis as well as responsible for minor equipment troubleshooting and repair. Facilitates, communicates, and interprets results and prepares scientific reports, and communicates appropriately to audiences of both peers as well as senior management. Works to assure various protocols, methods, and SOPs meet applicable regulations and customer\'s (internal and external) needs.

Accountabilities

Conducts process, method, and equipment validation/capability studies and/or method development as required by customers and regulations. Participates in new equipment and instrument assessment and qualification, as appropriate. Keeps up to date with scientific and technical development as well as develops new analytical methods.

Provides support to the Quality department in developing protocols, test methods and expert interpretation of data and compare results to established specifications or anticipated trends. Summarize laboratory results and prepare reports.

Troubleshoots testing anomalies and develops corrective actions in communication with Quality leadership. Develops and manages proficiency testing protocols and programs.

Develops, maintains, and performs change control activities as it relates to the laboratory equipment.

Ensures analytical equipment is calibrated and performing as required, and that supplies, and tools are available and in good condition. Maintains laboratory equipment including the operation, maintenance and method development for analytical instruments and equipment (s) including but not limited to: Moisture Analyzer, Viscometer, Temperature Abuse Cabinets, CEM, and Particle Analyzer.

Manages Analytical Lab, conducting tasks as required by the supervisor (for example products dimensions, volume analysis, assist with PQI and SPC checks). Ensures lab safety protocols are followed.

Assists Quality team in generating appropriate analytical data for use in product analysis and release (e.g. physical measurements, relevant chemical analysis etc.). Characteristics –

Participation in laboratory audits and assist in CA, PA. Support of the non-analytical (laboratory staff) as required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Food Chemistry, Microbiology or Biology preferred.

Experience

Demonstrated experience in a medical product, food or nutritional product manufacturing or laboratory setting; previous experience in an FDA / USDA / EPA / OSH/ NRC regulated industry. Demonstrated experience with food products testing in manufacturing and/or lab setting required. Familiarity with food / nutritional product legislation (FDA & USDA 21CFR &/or 9 CFR) a plus. Hands-on method development experience; Demonstrated expertise in a highly analytical role.

Qualifications

SPECIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of PC based document and information management (such as Excel databases) principles. Knowledge of Regulatory and Quality Assurance principles, specifically in what data is required to meet these compliance needs, how to present data and collected information to maximize its utility. Knowledge of writing instructional and prescriptive documents for use in manufacturing facilities for job task execution as well as job task training. Knowledge of Food Safety and Food Quality standards and codes. Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory practices, principles techniques and procedures in areas of micro and chemistry.

Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with manufacturing principles and/or general laboratory operations beneficial. Understanding of facility specific processes such as weighing, measuring, mixing, cleaning, sterilization, documentation. Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrated technical writing skills in analytical chemistry. Ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize work, and handle stress. Multi-project/multi-tasking capability. Ability to read/write English.

Ability to organize, coordinate, and execute multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to work with sensitive/confidential information. The base pay range for this position is $50,525 to $70,735 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This pay range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.
