The Senior Mining Engineer will be responsible for leading engineering design, production planning, and operational optimization for open pit mining activities at a large-scale operation in Nevada. This role requires extensive technical expertise in open pit mine design, production scheduling, cost control, and safety compliance. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with geology, processing, and maintenance teams to ensure efficient resource extraction and sustainable operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, review, and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans, designs, and production schedules for open pit operations.

Perform pit design, haul road layout, and dump design using industry-standard software such as Surpac, Vulcan, or MineSight.

Oversee drill and blast designs, monitoring fragmentation and pattern performance to improve productivity and cost efficiency.

Conduct pit optimization studies and evaluate cut-off grades to maximize ore recovery and mine life.

Prepare and monitor budgets, production forecasts, and capital project proposals.

Ensure compliance with MSHA regulations, environmental standards, and company safety policies.

Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, mine planners, and operational personnel.

Collaborate with geology and processing teams to align mine schedules with ore quality targets and production requirements.

Analyze operational data to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across mine planning and production activities.

Participate in project evaluations, feasibility studies, and life-of-mine planning efforts.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in open pit mining operations, with a strong background in mine design and scheduling.

Proficiency in mine planning software (Surpac, Vulcan, MineSight, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated experience in open pit optimization, cost control, and operational efficiency.

Strong understanding of MSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.

Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment.
