Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer Consultant Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer Consultant position in New York City focusing on healthcare, laboratory, and higher education spaces. The role involves developing designs for projects of varying sizes (renovations to new buildings) and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other sources for project development, design, and construction.

Perform professional plumbing engineering work, conduct research and inspections of site conditions, equipment, resources, and usage; install plumbing, fire protection and suppression, and fluid flow systems to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.

Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications.

Collaborate with engineers, planners, and professionals to execute project work, lay out installation of equipment, calculate costs and quantities of materials, and ensure conformity with specifications, permits, schematics, and regulatory documentation.

Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for interpretation or presentation of findings.

Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements and calculations, statistical analysis, and reporting.

Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.

Contribute to technical reports and presentations that address design and construction issues or problems.

Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gather information for design and plan future needs.

Assist in data interpretation from site investigations and develop action plans for risk mitigation.

Assist in preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).

Collaborate with engineers, architects, and authorities on Federal, State, regional, and local projects.

Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and policies; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.

3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in plumbing and fire protection engineering design; healthcare, laboratory, and higher education spaces preferred.

Engineer in Training Certification.

Knowledge of plumbing and fire protection principles, practices, design/build, and related applications.

Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.

Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand requirements.

Knowledge of relevant plumbing and fire protection systems, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging engineering and non-engineering audiences.

Self-leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with policies.

Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office software, math, predictive models, spreadsheets, and related tools.

Experience with AutoCAD, Revit or equivalent design software.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to apply technical knowledge to data and calculations.

Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies.

Ability to work hours that may extend beyond the typical workweek for project needs.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Engineering.

Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.

40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.

Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $90,800-$145,200. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range based on qualifications and other factors.
