Overview
Senior Solar Energy Engineer - Energy Solutions - CMTA CMTA is part of Legence and specializes in sustainable, high-performance building engineering. We deliver Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), Design/Build contracts, and renewable energy projects, including solar PV, storage, microgrids, and EV charging infrastructure. This role supports CMTA’s Energy Solutions division, the fastest growing division of the company. Responsibilities
Design, bid, project manage, and commission solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and EV charging infrastructure for CMTA clients. Collaborate with a team of engineers to deliver energy solutions from scope development through commissioning and ongoing energy management services. Engage with clients to understand needs, present technical solutions, and support project success. Qualifications
5-10+ years of experience in PV & Battery installations (small commercial to large commercial 50 kW – 2 MW+). NABCEP PV Installation, Designer, Commissioning, or Inspector Certification (preferred, but not required). Knowledge of AC & DC electrical wiring, communications, and monitoring systems (e.g., SMA, SolarEdge, Fronius, Chint). Thorough knowledge of the NEC electrical code, especially section 690. Experience with PV interconnection documents and utility tariffs; familiarity with behind-the-meter and ahead-of-the-meter interconnections. Experience with PV production modeling (e.g., SAM, PVsyst, Helioscope). Ability to read structural drawings and understand industry terminology. Knowledge of PV racking types (pitched/flat roofs, carports, ground mounts) and related vendors. Revit/AutoCAD experience preferred. Electrical engineering fundamentals: single-line diagrams, voltage drop, conduit fill, transformer sizing, short-circuit calculations. Understanding of solar grid-tied systems, power distribution, 3-phase power systems, and microgrids. Strong project management skills and ability to manage deadlines and team coordination.
