Overview

Accounting Technician I (S) – Full-time in the NC Department of Adult Correction, Administration Division. Salary range: $32,639.00 - $57,117.00. This is an Internal Posting open ONLY for current North Carolina State Government employees and eligible RIF Candidates from NC State Government, including eligible current Temporary Employees. Position purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to audit and process both direct and matching invoices for the Department of Adult Correction in the Eastern Region. The Accounting Technician I is responsible for running and analyzing reports related to accounts payable activity and making necessary entries. Responsibilities

Process payments for goods and services by reviewing, verifying, and entering invoices into the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS). Match vendor invoices to purchase orders, verify contract pricing, freight, and taxes, and resolve discrepancies with vendors or facility staff. Verify vendor numbers, Federal ID numbers, and group numbers to ensure accurate payment processing. Research and resolve payable issues, including duplicate payments, receipt exceptions, and pricing or quantity discrepancies. Reconcile vendor statements, analyze errors such as late fees or tax mischarges, and coordinate corrections with vendors or purchasing personnel. Communicate effectively with vendors, auditors, managers, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely payments. Qualifications

Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and applicable mathematics and their application in the work environment. Strong written communication skills, ability to proofread and use proper office terminology to compose clear and professional reports and materials. Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel). Ability to record, compile, summarize, and analyze data; review and process information to draw conclusions, make informed decisions, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and program requirements. Education and Experience

Education: Associate degree in accounting from an accredited institution (OR) High school diploma or GED plus two years of accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
