We are hiring a Respiratory Therapist for Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas, TX. This is a PRN position with hours: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. PRN Hourly Rate: $41.00 per hour.
Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital is committed to providing exceptional and compassionate care to address the medical, physical, emotional, and vocational challenges for individuals with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, orthopedic issues, amputation, and multiple traumas.
Overview Joint venture with Select Medical.
Responsibilities
Evaluate patients and recommend a treatment plan.
Explain the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provide necessary education upon discharge to home.
Conduct physician-prescribed treatments of a routine nature operating various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive, and use various oxygen and aerosol devices and nebulizers to administer prescribed therapies.
Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning as needed, monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
Review chest X-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
Perform pulmonary function studies according to policy (e.g., NIF, VC).
Assist with procedures related to respiratory care per policy (e.g., bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, chest tube placement) where applicable.
Ensure adequate drainage of chest via PleurX catheter or similar device where applicable.
Perform tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent) per policy.
Perform arterial puncture per policy and assess ventilation efficiency; record and report results.
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
Insert and remove endotracheal tubes via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope as applicable.
Document treatments and patient responses in respiratory care records and charts (including pre- and post-assessments per policy).
Communicate with attending physicians and pulmonologists about the effectiveness of therapy.
Minimum Qualifications
BLS certification required.
Current state licensure required.
ACLS required within 6 months of hire (agency RT must have ACLS on first shift; PRN staff must have ACLS on hire).
Preferred Qualifications
Active NBRC credential or state equivalent; RRT preferred.
One year of related experience preferred.
