The Youth Program Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Afghan and newcomer youth as they build confidence, leadership skills, academic readiness, and a sense of belonging. This part-time position focuses on direct youth engagement, program support, and culturally-responsive outreach. The Coordinator will help plan and facilitate workshops, tutoring sessions, and family engagement events; build trusting relationships with youth and parents; and support youth-led leadership activities and community projects. This role works closely with AHI’s program leadership and youth staff team to ensure programming is welcoming, organized, culturally grounded, and aligned with youth voices and community values. Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation and Support
Plan, deliver, and assist with workshop logistics, materials preparation, and attendance tracking. Gather informal feedback from youth, families, and staff to refine programming, and share with the program management lead. Support culturally responsive practices and ensure all activities are inclusive and language-accessible.
Youth & Family Engagement
Recruit, onboard, and build relationships with youth participants and families. Conduct outreach in schools, community centers and public spaces, and informal settings (WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.). Facilitate workshops, tutoring sessions, and interactive activities that promote leadership and academic growth. Engage parents through family workshops and events that strengthen communication and cultural understanding. Youth Committee Facilitation
Mentor youth committee members and foster peer leadership opportunities. Support youth-led project planning, public speaking, and event coordination. Help youth co-facilitate sessions and represent AHI in community spaces.
Additional Duties
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development. Represent AHI at community events and coalition activities. Perform other duties as needed to advance maternal health equity.
Qualifications
Required Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or Social Services. At least 1–2 years of program or project coordination experience, ideally in health, maternal health, or social services. Strong skills in community outreach, facilitation, and cross-cultural communication. Experience with data management systems and reporting for health or social programs. Problem-solving skills to address barriers clients face in accessing healthcare. Excellent English communication skills (speaking, reading, writing). Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of Afghan cultural values and lived community experience. Bilingual/Trilingual (Dari, Farsi, Pashto, and English). Field-based community experience. Own means of transportation and flexible availability. Preferred Experience working with immigrant/refugee or diverse communities. Knowledge of maternal health disparities and culturally responsive health promotion. This is a part-time in person, 20-hour per week position based at AHI’s office in Covington, WA. Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with hours of this role to be discussed with candidate, and with flexibility required for some evenings and weekends. Hourly Rate : $23.33–$27.50 Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance (AHI covers 99% of premiums and deductibles). Paid Time Off, including vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
