Duties & Responsibilities Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Social Work invites applications for tenure-track faculty at the assistant, associate, or full professor levels. Several positions will be filled. The school offers BSW, MSW, and PhD programs with both online and on-campus modalities. The university is a large, urban, public research institution with a focus on community engagement and impact.
Responsibilities include:
Establish and maintain an active research program with external funding, publish in scholarly journals, and contribute to the governance of the SSW and VCU through service on committees.
Teach with excellence in BSW, MSW, and/or PhD programs.
Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across university centers and initiatives such as the Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development, Partnership for People with Disabilities, Center on Health Disparities, and other related centers.
Contribute to the school’s mission with a focus on health and behavioral health equity, community mental health, child welfare, international social work, and policy advocacy for social change.
Foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility among faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications Applicants must hold a PhD in social work or a closely related field or be at an advanced stage of completing a doctoral dissertation. Preference will be given to applicants who hold an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and have at least 2 years of post-MSW social work practice experience. Demonstrated ability to secure extramural research funding or to work in research groups with substantial extramural funding is preferred. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
