The New Mexico WIC Program, Department of Health and Food & Nutrition bureau safeguards the health of nutritionally at-risk low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infant, and children by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition information for healthy eating, health counseling, breastfeeding support, nutrition classes, cooking classes, and referrals to health care providers and social services. This position provides administrative support to the NM WIC State office that includes the Nutrition Services, Breastfeeding Promotion, and WIC and Senior Farmers Market sections. How does it get done?
This position is responsible for routine clerical and administrative services at the WIC state office which includes: Opening, sorting and distributing incoming messages and correspondence. Filing, inventory management, mailing, UPS shipments, faxing and calendar scheduling. Scheduling and coordinating meetings, conference calls and appointments to include the logistics of the WIC state-wide conferences. Answering telephone calls for WIC and Farmers Market, responding to electronic inquiries and forwarding telephone calls and messages to appropriate personnel. Managing the office, responding to in-person requests and providing program information. Utilizing Microsoft applications such as creating spreadsheets using Excel to develop reports and lists. Preparing correspondence, drafts, emails, letters, memos, and other documents and ensure content accuracy. Overseeing vehicle logs. Taking inventory of supplies. Email staff and ask for their supply order and prepare spreadsheet. Cleanup and reorganize supply section in storage room. Assisting with Farmers Market phone calls and enter applications and program data into system. Assist Seniors with filling out Farmers Market application (in-person/online). Issuances of Farmers Market cards. Prepare and send mail correspondence for both WIC and Farmers Market. Who are the customers?
The general public, including women, infants, and children certified to recieve WIC benefits as well as WIC and Seniors qualified to recieve Farmers' Market benefits. Ideal Candidate
Fluent in both English and Spanish; High School Diploma or GED and three (3) months of general office experience. Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years work experience in office administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Extended periods of driving and the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and moderate office noise, heat, cold, and smells. Some travel with occasional overnight stay may be required. Supplemental Information
