Overview
Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, the incumbent performs professional accounting duties in the maintenance and review of accounting and fiscal records and transactions. Conducts internal reviews of financial records, systems, and procedures. Provides assistance to supervisor and department managers and/or the general public regarding financial and accounting activities pertaining to department programs, services, or grant related activities. Handle monthly reconciliations for the City's three pension plans. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities
Monitor and analyze financial transactions related to funds management, investments, expenditures, bank account reconciliation, accounts receivables/payables, payroll, and similar operations. Prepare journal entries for interdepartmental transfers, daily wire transfers, and monthly recurring accounts. Review and compare monthly bank statements to the general ledger. Identify and reconcile differences, and record all interest earnings. Perform financial and accounting functions for the reconciliation and reporting of assigned program areas, such as grants, debt, and fixed assets. Maintain automated and manual files for assigned program areas, including databases, spreadsheets, correspondence, regulatory references, and financial records. Verify procurement card usage reports to monthly statements. Reconcile differences, prepare reports and related journal entries to record departmental expenditures. Prepare year-end schedules and compile supporting documentation for the annual audit performed by external auditors. Prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and coordinate the distribution of the reports. Operate a vehicle when travel is required to participate in meetings at other facilities and to attend conferences. Maintain regular and reliable attendance and physical presence at the workplace. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database and accounting software. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Clear and persuasive communication in spoken and written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate necessary equipment, including personal computer, calculator, printer, copier, and other standard office equipment. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited college or university. Accountant experience and/or training may substitute for the degree. Two (2) years of experience in finance, accounting or related work. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications
CGFO (Certified Government Finance Officer) or CPFO (Certified Public Finance Officer) preferred. Work Environment and Physical Requirements
