The Greenwood Commonwealth is a twice weekly newspaper located in Greenwood, Mississippi, in the Mississippi Delta. It operates from its base at 329 Highway 82 W and delivers trusted local news to its community. Role Description The Greenwood Commonwealth is looking for a versatile managing editor to assume the leadership of our newsroom. The managing editor’s job is a good fit for someone who enjoys wearing a lot of hats: writer, page designer, copy editor, social media skills, and sometimes coach to young reporters. Experience with both hard and softer (lifestyles) news is helpful. Good working knowledge of QuarkXpress or Adobe InDesign is essential.
Qualifications
Strong editorial skills, including content editing and proofreading, ensuring accuracy and clarity
Proficiency in managing and guiding teams, with experience in mentoring writers and coordinating editorial workflows
Ability to strategize and plan content aligned with organizational and community objectives
Excellent organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience with journalistic standards, ethical guidelines, and newsroom best practices
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field preferred
Prior experience in an editorial role within a publishing or news environment is highly advantageous
