Job Summary BNY is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented
Senior Data Center Engineer
to support critical data center infrastructure operations within our Data Center Services (DCS) organization. This individual will play a key role in managing day-to-day activities and infrastructure projects, including server installations, cabling, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all server hardware and related devices. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a fast-paced data center environments and possess strong technical troubleshooting skills across Dell and Cisco systems, structured cabling, and physical IT infrastructure.
This is a
full-time, onsite role
with weekend coverage required. Standard schedule:
7:00 PM – 3:00 AM EDT Tuesday–Saturday .
Key Responsibilities
Provide Level 1 and Level 2 data center infrastructure support, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
Plan and execute data center installations, configurations, and troubleshooting for servers, networking, and storage systems.
Perform cabling and space planning activities, including server cabinet layout and structured cabling (fiber and copper).
Lead small- to mid-size infrastructure projects and deliver on competing priorities from internal stakeholders.
Support independent automation and transformation projects within the DCS environment.
Conduct data collection, trend analysis, and problem analysis to proactively identify and resolve system issues.
Provide hardware installations, repairs, firmware upgrades, and optimization for Intel/Linux/Network/Mainframe systems.
Coordinate setup of DEV/QA/UAT environments and support escalations according to SLA priorities.
Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve server/network/storage-related issues.
Deliver effective communication with technical stakeholders, including engineers and project managers.
Maintain structured documentation, asset records, and infrastructure standards.
Support adherence to service levels, operational best practices, and safety protocols within the data center.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on experience in data center operations.
Strong knowledge of physical IT infrastructure, including servers, SANs, and networking equipment.
Proven experience with rack/stacking/cabling and production equipment handling.
Excellent troubleshooting skills across server hardware components (e.g., DIMM/motherboard replacements).
Strong understanding of Dell & Cisco standalone servers, enclosures, and blades.
Experience with structured cabling design and standards (fiber/copper).
Proficiency with Data Center Inventory Management tools (Nlyte or Sunbird preferred).
Familiarity with ServiceNow, JIRA, or Confluence for issue tracking and documentation.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, team-oriented environment.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with UNIX commands for log and configuration file analysis.
Exposure to IBM Mainframe, Oracle, Cisco, and Dell environments.
Experience with cloud platforms, Snowflake, or data lake environments.
Understanding of environment configuration management and integration across hybrid infrastructures.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
