The Medium Voltage Splicer is responsible for performing high-quality splicing, terminating, and testing of underground medium-voltage distribution systems (typically 5kV to 35kV) for utilities, substations, and commercial facilities. This role requires expertise in MV cable systems, switching operations, and diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, precision, and reliability, and be willing to travel outside of San Diego as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform splicing, terminating, and T-body installations on medium voltage cables using heat shrink, cold shrink, and molded technologies Conduct MV switching operations in accordance with utility and site protocols Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications Execute cable testing procedures including Megger, VLF/Tan Delta, continuity, phasing, and voltage verification Collaborate with foremen and project managers to plan and execute work safely and efficiently Maintain accurate documentation of splicing activities, test results, and materials used Ensure proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems Adhere to all safety protocols including lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and confined space procedures Participate in job site safety meetings and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability Train and mentor apprentices or junior splicers as needed EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION: 3+ years of experience in medium voltage cable splicing, terminations, and testing Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience Proficiency in splicing techniques for various cable types including PILC, EPR, and XLPE Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and utility safety standards Experience with diagnostic testing equipment such as Megger and VLF/Tan Delta testers NCSCB and/or NECA MV splicer certifications preferred but not required Ability to work in confined spaces, trenches, and elevated environments Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel outside of San Diego as needed PAY TRANSPARENCY: The hourly rate for this position is based on the local I.B.E.W. union rates.
