Overview
MiraCosta College is accepting applications to build a pool of instructors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations. The department chairperson or designee will review applications if vacancies become available. Instructors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility, and assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends. Applications are valid through June 30, 2024; a new posting for this pool will be posted on July 1, 2024, and interested applicants will need to reapply at that time.

Assignment Category: Temporary Assignment. The college is accepting applications to build a pool of instructors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations.
Residency Requirement
MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all associate faculty employees to reside in California within two-hundred (200) road miles of the employee’s regularly assigned district worksite. For fully online assignments, residency within California is required, with exceptions as noted. The District may consider temporary residence outside California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.
Compensation
$83.03 to $96.25 per hour. Compensation is based on education. Current salary schedule is available on the MiraCosta Jobs site under “Salary Schedules”.

All degrees and units must be from regionally accredited institutions. If a degree is from outside the United States, a detailed evaluation from a professional evaluation agency is required.
If needed to meet minimum qualifications, a copy of your fully satisfied lifetime California Community College credential may be required.
Applicants will not be contacted unless selected for interview. Offer of employment is contingent upon: proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or approved exemption; current TB clearance; work eligibility in the United States; fingerprint clearance; and submission of official transcripts or valid California Community College credential.
Vaccination details: individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose of a 2-dose series or after a single-dose vaccine, or two weeks after a bivalent vaccine.
Minimum Qualifications
The transcripts provided must state the degree title, major, and date awarded. Requirements include one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree and two years of related occupational experience (teaching experience not included) Associate’s degree and six years of related occupational experience (teaching experience not included) Full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter Valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline Equivalent

Desirable Qualifications
Under direction, plan, organize and teach assigned courses in an instructional field or discipline in accordance with approved course outlines and educational code requirements; provide feedback to students and evaluate performance; perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, organize and develop instructional materials; teach courses with sound pedagogical methods; assess and evaluate student learning outcomes; use instructional technologies to support learning; participate in textbook/material reviews. Provide prompt feedback on assignments; evaluate performance; assign grades and maintain records; meet deadlines for grades and records. Be available to students via phone, email, LMS, or in-person; maintain office hours and flexible scheduling; refer students to campus resources as needed. Maintain accurate course records and attendance; ensure confidentiality of student information. Collaborate with department chairs and faculty on policies, curricula, and classroom needs; substitute for other faculty as required. Participate in campus life and committees; meet professional responsibilities as per contract.
Other Duties
Stay current in the discipline; maintain licensure or continuing education where applicable May arrange and lead field trips or related course activities Perform related duties as assigned

Advanced knowledge of theories and practices in the assigned discipline Effective teaching techniques and strategies for diverse learners Educational technologies and course management systems State education code and curriculum requirements Methods for teaching students with diverse needs
Ability To
Explain subject matter clearly to a diverse student population Use instructional technology to enhance learning Promote critical thinking and problem solving Maintain accurate records and protect student confidentiality Maintain flexible scheduling and professional development Communicate effectively in writing and verbally Work well with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds
Physical, Emotional & Working Conditions
Primarily sedentary with occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds; computer-based work; travel to district locations as needed. Working conditions include classroom and office environments with potential public contact and occasional evenings/weekends.
