Job Description Takeda's Biotherapeutics Process Development focuses on creating and optimizing the manufacturing processes for innovative biologic medicines, including monoclonal antibodies and other therapeutic proteins. BPD includes cell line development, upstream cell culture, downstream purification, in-process analytics, pilot labs to facilitate scale up and transfer, and technology development teams, working collaboratively to deliver Takeda’s novel therapeutics.
The co‑op will support the project through execution of typical purification operations, such as capture and polishing chromatography, depth filtration, tangential‑flow filtration (TFF), etc., as well as bioconjugation, using high‑throughput screening techniques under supervision. The co‑op will participate in experimental design, purification experiments, data analysis, and communicating results to the broader BPD team. Additionally, the co‑op will have the opportunity to collaborate with other teams from BPD and Analytical Development (AD). This opportunity will provide the student with relevant experience in both purification and bioconjugation process of biotherapeutics and facilitate development of key skills needed to thrive in the pharmaceutical industry.
How You Will Contribute:
Plan and execute purification and conjugation experiments
Keep complete records of experimental design, results, and conclusions with an electronic notebook
Share key results and findings through oral presentations and written reports
Complete other lab activities as needed
Co‑op Development Opportunities:
Obtain hands‑on experiences of process development laboratory focusing on purification and bioconjugation process development
Accumulate in‑depth knowledge on development of biotherapeutics in different modalities, such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody‑drug conjugates, etc.
Work as part of Takeda’s Biotherapeutics Process Development Team for a period of approximately 6 months gaining hands‑on experience with various aspects of process development
Generate, analyze, and communicate results to Takeda scientists and engineers
Job Requirements:
This position will be Fully Onsite (4+ days/week) in office out of the Takeda Lexington location
Must be pursuing a Bachelors/Masters/Ph.D. Degree in chemical engineering, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, or related field
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to learn new techniques and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Previous experience in a laboratory setting is required
Previous experience with purification setup, such as chromatography systems (AKTA), TFF, or high‑throughput system/robotics in a laboratory setting is preferred
General knowledge of protein engineering, bioprocessing and bioconjugation is a plus
Co‑op Eligibility:
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later
The co‑op program is 6 months long from January to June
Able to work full time 40 hours a week during co‑op dates
Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support

U.S. Hourly Wage Range: $21.00 - $46.00
The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship. The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. internship benefits vary by location and may include:
Paid sick time
Civic Duty paid time off

Access to on‑site fitness center (where available)
