Parsons Oman
Telecommunications MBSE Engineer - FAA BNATCS
Parsons Oman, Virginia, Minnesota, United States, 55792
Job Description
Parsons is seeking a talented MBSE Engineer to support the FAA in modeling, simulating, and analyzing telecommunication networks that enable safe and efficient airspace operations. In this role, you will use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to define architectures, interfaces, and requirements for NAS telecommunication systems, including data exchange protocols, network performance, and resiliency. This position interfaces closely with FAA stakeholders to ensure the reliability and scalability of telecommunication systems critical to airspace operations. If you’re passionate about MBSE, telecommunication systems, and delivering high-quality solutions for aviation safety, we want to hear from you! Duties & Responsibilities
Telecommunications System Modeling – Build high-fidelity SysML/UAF models of NAS telecommunication systems, including IP networks, data exchange protocols, and network interfaces. Model performance metrics such as latency, jitter, packet loss, availability, failover, and scalability. Represent FAA systems and interfaces, ensuring scenarios reflect operational deployments and future modernization paths.
Simulation & Analysis – Execute MBSE-driven trade studies focused on performance, availability, reliability, and cybersecurity constraints for telecommunication systems. Design experiments and scenarios to test network resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance. Calibrate models to lab data from FAA facilities and prototype modernization paths for telecommunication systems.
Integration & Automation – Integrate models with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) environments and automate data collection, replay, and reporting using scripting tools. Collaborate with FAA stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of telecommunication systems with NAS infrastructure.
Engineering Artifacts – Produce requirements, model assumptions, verification/validation plans, and traceability artifacts consistent with RTCA DO 278A standards for ground‑based CNS/ATM software. Present findings to FAA stakeholders and support technology transfer to operational teams and vendor partners.
Required Skills & Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline); Master’s Degree preferred.
10+ years overall experience. 5+ years of experience in telecommunication/network modeling for mission‑critical systems.
3+ years of hands‑on MBSE/SysML modeling experience using tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, or Capella.
US Persons required.
Hands‑on experience with discrete event and network simulation tools (e.g., ns‑3, OMNeT++, Riverbed/OPNET Modeler, AnyLogic/Arena).
Proven delivery of model-based outputs for gated reviews (SRR → CDR) and baseline control/change management.
Familiarity with FAA environments (WJHTC labs, Simulation Branch/TGF; integration with ERAM/STARS/ATOP/TBFM).
Working knowledge of FAA telecommunication policies and modernization concepts.
Exposure to NAS telecommunication system behaviors and operational constraints.
Experience with HLA/DIS for distributed simulation, hardware‑in‑the‑loop, and lab orchestration (containers/virtualization).
Awareness of DO 278A software integrity assurance practices for ground systems.
Statistical design of experiments (DOE), Monte Carlo analysis, reliability modeling, and model calibration/validation techniques.
Desired Certifications
INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, OMG certifications (OCUP/OCSMP), or PMI/SAFe credentials.
Security Clearance Requirement
None Salary Range
$120,800.00 – $217,400.00 Benefits
