Job Summary The Engineering Technician is responsible for the activities associated with maintenance of manufacturing processes and operations for existing composite aerospace products and assemblies. This includes ensuring the actions assigned by the program lead engineer and/or the value stream manager to produce quality products that meet customer requirements at minimum costs.
The Engineering Technician maintains methods, operation sequences, and process documentation in the manufacture and fabrication of parts which will include the estimation of manufacturing costs, time standards and the ability to recommend tooling and process requirements for new and existing products.
The Engineering Technician acts as a liaison with internal and external customers in releasing new processes and works with the production lead to ensure efficient manufacturing operations. Additionally, the Engineering Technician will provide technical support to integrated product team members for technical documentation and technical report writing, releasing Engineering Change notices (ECN’s), Material Review Board (MRB) activities, and other engineering functions as required by the program lead Engineer.
Job Core Responsibilities
Daily interaction with program lead Engineer and Production lead to define technical tasks need to be completed daily and provide status updates on long lead assignments.
Seeks guidance from engineering lead and/or Director of Engineering for MRB part dispositioning, modification of rework supplemental instructions, and travelers.
Technical Engineering lead of MRB for the production programs they are assigned. This includes reviewing parts and the nonconformance documentation to validate the condition and works to define a path to resolving the issue or dispositions the part(s).
Supports production processes monitoring through SPC and data analysis of KPIs.
Assists in providing root cause and corrective action for out-of-control processes in support of AS9100 and NADCAP requirements.
Other identified or assigned program tasks as directed by the program lead engineer or Value Stream Manager (VSM).
Job Specifications: Education:
Actively in pursuit of B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering
Experience:
1-3 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. Any experience with layup, molding, machining, and inspection of composite materials is a plus.
Required Skills:
Self-starter with excellent time management skills and ability to establish objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve these objectives
Documents processes and records activities sufficiently to lead Engineering Change notices
Is an integral team member, yet also be able to function independently where objects are defined
Be able to make technical, data-driven decisions and execute with program lead Engineer or management
Uses logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons or facts from data, to draw conclusions
Understand, follow, and adhere to corporate Quality Management System on a daily basis
Knowledge of data acquisition systems to record temperature, position, and pressure organized, self-motivated, strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Ability to manage multiple duties, set priorities, and follow tasks through completion
Capable of working in an environment in which demands and priorities change based on customer requests
Preferred Skills:
Previous internship experience with an aerospace or composite molding manufacture in an Engineering role.
Experience with AS9100 and/or NADCAP quality management system requirements for composite molding and bonding
Experience with document control practices (releasing ECN’s for production planning), dimensional inspection data review in Mintab, creating item masters, BOM’s, and Routers, Made to Manage (or other ERP systems)
Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: $30/hr-$34/hr.
