The Department of History, Politics, and Social Justice at Winston-Salem State University is seeking to hire adjunct faculty to teach Justice Studies and Political Science courses for the 2025-2026 academic year. The department seeks exceptional candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, advising, mentoring undergraduate research, interdisciplinary teaching and research collaboration, engagement with the broader public, and service to the community. Successful candidate must have at least a Master’s degree in Justice Studies, Criminal Justice, Political Science or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching “Research Methods, Victimology, Senior Seminar and varied law related courses.” Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of History, Politics and Social Justice seeks to enrich the minds of students by providing them with programs and courses that strengthen critical thinking. These adjuncts are responsible for teaching the following courses: Comparative World History: Gender African American History: 1865-present African American Material/Methods Position Information

Working Position Title: Adjunct Faculty – Justice Studies / Political Science Appointment Type: Time‑Limited – up to 1 academic year Opening Date: 11/04/2025 Closing Date: 11/11/2025 Requirements and Preferences

Master’s Degree or higher in Justice Studies, Political Science or related field, from an accredited institution, and at least 18 graduate hours in Justice Studies/Political Science by the time of appointment. Candidate must also have excellent communication/interpersonal skills and a commitment to a liberal arts education in a diverse educational environment. Required Qualification Summary: Master’s Degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Political Science or a closely related field, from an accredited institution (Ph.D. preferred). Candidate should possess at least one year of college‑level or more of successful teaching experience (preferred). Three years or more of experience with SPSS products and Canvas LMS platform. Ph.D. or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Justice Studies, Political Science, or a related field by the time of appointment. Special consideration for candidates with experience teaching “Research Methods, Victimology, Senior Seminar and varied law related courses.” Experience teaching Research Methods, Senior Seminar, Victimology, Criminal, Administrative & Constitutional Law courses. Ability to teach at a Historically Black Institution with sensitivity to social justice issues facing minority groups. Strong commitment to student learning and engagement. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, Education: Ph.D. in Justice Studies and/or a related field from an accredited institution. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to a liberal arts education in a diverse community. Prior teaching experience in a diverse university environment.
