Title: Specialist, ESOL
Under the supervision of the EL Director, the ESOL Specialist assists with the screening, placement, assessment, and quality services provided to the English Learners (ELs) based on state and federal guidelines. The ESOL Specialist also assists with the implementation of the ESOL curriculum and instructional programs to support the language development and academic achievement of ELs.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Assists and supports teachers in planning, scheduling, delivering, and assessing quality instruction for ELs. • Assists ESOL teachers on interpreting and utilizing data to inform and improve instruction, differentiate instruction for ELs, use WIDA resources, and implement evidence-based strategies for English learners. • Supports ESOL teachers in the creation and implementation of Instructional Language Plans (ILPs) for English learners. • Models evidence-based practices for EL instruction in all delivery models. • Monitors and supports the implementation of appropriate curriculum. • Supports teachers to ensure that standards-based lesson plans and assessments are rigorous and effective for the needs of ELs. • Supports local school efforts to deliver and monitor appropriate professional learning opportunities for teachers and staff. • Participates in committees and meetings to discuss and develop action plans and strategies geared to ensure the high academic achievement of English Learners (ELs). • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Master's degree from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in relevant educational field required. • Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience as an ESOL teacher is required. • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in the appropriate educational field at level T-5 or above required. • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved, ESOL certification/endorsement is required.
