At Serco, we work on high‑profile and challenging projects supporting the U.S. Navy. This role supports the Virginia Class Submarine program office (PMS450) from our Washington, D.C. location around the historic Washington Navy Yard right by Nationals Stadium.

You will be part of an integrated government‑industry team, helping to augment U.S. Navy acquisitions and build expertise in naval defense.

Responsibilities

Assess risk for technical decisions for IC systems on Virginia Class ships.

Design, develop, and maintain interior communication, ship speed and steering control, power generation and distribution, data conversion and distribution, aviation monitoring, training, gyro navigation, and other electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, fiber optic systems.

Interpret and analyze ship blueprints, system interface diagrams, and test data, preparing technical reports and documentation.

Review design drawings, shipboard system diagrams, vendor drawings, calculations, test procedures, technical manuals, and purchase documents to ensure specification compliance.

Review contract drawings, government‑furnished information (GFI), engineering change requests, and other government data for completeness and accuracy.

Provide technical direction and quality control for electrical engineering requirements on submarine IC systems.

Guide training program development for submarine IC and electrical components.

Conduct engineering studies and research to support short‑ and long‑term projects on submarines.

Collaborate with manufacturing, design, production, and quality assurance teams to deliver optimized battery solutions and improve production efficiency.

Analyze non‑electrical engineering changes for impacts on electrical power allocation and interfaces.

Qualifications

Active or current DoD Secret clearance.

U.S. citizenship.

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline; an associate’s degree and 2 years of additional experience, or a high school diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience, will be considered.

5 years of engineering experience, including 2 years in related/similar electrical systems roles.

Experience reviewing design specifications, resolving technical issues, and producing technical documentation.

Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills.

Familiarity with supporting the Naval Systems Engineering Directorate.

Ability to facilitate coordination with government and non‑government stakeholders.

Ability to work autonomously in a time‑sensitive environment.

Willingness to travel up to 10 % of the time.

Additional Desired Experience and Skills

Experience as a senior interior communications electrician on U.S. Navy submarines.

Experience working in DoD or DoN environments.

Knowledge of submarine electrical system requirements, design, construction, and maintenance.

Experience supporting development of submarine electrical design procedures and criteria.

Experience providing engineering manager support for NAVSEA or other Department of the Navy commands.

Experience leading weekly meetings with ship builders and suppliers regarding actions and status.
