Overview UC San Diego Health is a Magnet‑designated organization and a National Cancer Institute‑designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Senior Physician Assistant (PA) works with attending oncologists to deliver comprehensive medical management for breast oncology patients, participates in multidisciplinary care, leads tumor board presentations, provides patient and family education, and supports clinical research and community outreach.
Responsibilities
Provide primary medical management for breast oncology patients in an outpatient setting.
Conduct initial history, physical examinations, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate management plans.
Order and interpret common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.
Prescribe antineoplastic therapies and other cancer medications in accordance with institutional protocols.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure consistent and high‑quality care across the health‑care continuum.
Present patient cases at tumor board and team meetings.
Educate patients, families, and staff on breast oncology care and disease processes.
Participate in and/or initiate clinical trials and research activities.
Engage in community outreach, networking with community physicians, and other health‑care professionals.
Provide urgent symptom management for oncology patients when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an ARC‑PA approved physician assistant program.
California PA license.
NCCPA certification.
Current ART certification; or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at hire, with commitment to obtain ART within six months.
At least one year of outpatient oncology experience as a licensed PA.
Strong history and physical exam skills; ability to identify major medical problems and formulate appropriate plans.
Knowledge of common diagnostic tests, procedures, and infection control in a clinic setting.
Ability to manage own patient load effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; shows empathy and kindness to staff and patients.
Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant oncology certification.
Experience in breast health care.
Special Conditions
Must be able to work varied hours and locations as needed.
Must obtain and maintain UCSD medical staff privileges; clinical advanced practice experience must have been within the last two years.
Employment is subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Compensation Annual full pay range:
$160,922 – $211,974
(prorated for percentages less than 100%). Hourly equivalent:
$77.07 – $101.52 . Compensation is determined based on experience, skills, licensure, certifications, and institutional needs.
Additional Requirements
Compliance with the university’s policy on vaccination programs.
Certifications such as BLS, NRP, ACLS must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment (online‑only certification is not acceptable).
