Position Overview The Legal Associate will provide comprehensive legal support across a wide range of real estate and corporate matters, ensuring that all business activities align with the company’s mission, values, and compliance standards. This includes managing and supporting transactional work, including acquisitions, financings, refinancings, and dispositions. The Legal Associate will also conduct legal research, monitor changes in applicable laws, and provide practical legal advice to support the company’s operations and strategic initiatives. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to engage in complex real estate transactions while contributing to a collaborative, mission‑driven organization.
Core Responsibilities
Model and instill company mission and values
Conduct real estate closings, which will include acquisitions, financings, refinancings, dispositions, and so forth
Conduct review and negotiation of documentation, especially loan documents
Prepare organizational documentation
Conduct contract review and negotiation
Prepare drafts of legal opinions
Conduct preparation/review of letters for various members of the company as necessary
Conduct legal research as necessary
Remain abreast of changes in law which may impact the company’s operations
Prepare and negotiate construction contracts for third‑party construction operations
Participate in conference calls, including closing related calls on a regular basis
Assist with general legal advice across all company platforms
Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel or CEO
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of legal experience as a legal associate, preferably in real estate development industry
Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
Active law license in NJ, PA, DE, or MD required
Proven experience leading commercial loan closings as the lead person
Strong understanding of loan transactions and related documentation
Knowledge of title and survey matters
Exceptional attention to contractual details to ensure maximum legal protection
Excellent writing and communication skills
Collaborative team player with a results‑driven mindset
Familiarity with landlord/tenant and leasing issues preferred
Experience in Affordable Housing is a plus
