THE ROLE: As a Silicon Photonics Validation Engineer in the SerDes Technology team, you will collaborate with various Product Development Groups, Silicon Design, DFT, Packaging, and interface with key technology partners. This individual serves as a critical technical point of contact to ensure best‑practices and new test concepts are architected, developed, and driven throughout the organization. This position focuses on developing characterization and verification test solutions for silicon photonics. You will be part of a larger team that defines test solutions from concept, development, to production deployment.

THE PERSON: We are seeking a skilled engineer with hands‑on experience in silicon photonics characterization and validation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solving complex test and manufacturing challenges related to silicon photonics and optical interconnect technologies. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams to support the development and implementation of robust test methodologies. Candidates should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment and contributing to long‑term test solution strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Validate and characterize AMD’s SerDes PHY functionality and performance against design targets, product requirements, datasheet and industry standards

Working closely with internal and external teams to troubleshoot issues and determine the root cause. Feedback to designers and architects for design improvements

Work with architects, design and application engineers to review specs and features for silicon validation and characterization

Ensure and enhance SerDes performance, electrical and/or optical, compliant to Industry standards such as PCIe, IEEE and OIF etc.

Develop test automations with advanced scripting and programming skills to improve test and data analysis efficiency and coverage

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Hands‑on experience with full stack lab instruments such as high‑speed scopes, BERT, VNA, and/or other associated lab equipment.

Experience in mixed signal analysis, issue debug

Experience in latest SerDes architecture or design

Experience in scripting test automation, demo GUI, customer supporting scripts

Understanding of Signal Integrity and/or Power Integrity is a plus Familiar with advanced data post processing techniques is a plus

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

BS or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred
