Cascade High School is a grade 9-12 comprehensive high school serving approximately 100 students.

Job Summary

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will design, implement, and oversee athletic performance programs for student-athletes across all sports. This coach will collaborate closely with head coaches and the physical education department to create training regimens that support the development, health, and performance of our athletes, with a focus on the school’s primary sports. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is required to abide by the Montana High School Association (MHSA) rules and regulations as well as the rules and regulations set by the Cascade School District Board of Directors and the Cascade High School Activities Director.

Job Specifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-4 years of experience in strength and conditioning programs (head coaching experience preferred).
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (MHSA), opponents, staff, parents, and students.
  • Develop year‑round strength and conditioning programs tailored to in‑season, off‑season, and pre‑season phases for each sport.
  • Ensure all programs prioritize injury prevention, athletic development, and safe progression of exercises.
  • Work in coordination with all head coaches to align strength and conditioning programs with sport‑specific goals and team needs.
  • Partner with the PE teacher to reinforce foundational fitness and athletic movement skills through PE curriculum when appropriate.
  • Provide hands‑on coaching and instruction to athletes in the proper execution of strength training, speed, agility, and conditioning exercises.
  • Supervise use of the weight room and conditioning spaces to ensure safety and proper technique.
  • Track athlete progress, adjust programs as needed, and report results to head coaches.
  • Monitor student‑athlete workload to help prevent overtraining and reduce risk of injury.
  • Maintain weight room equipment and ensure a clean, safe training environment.
  • Assist with scheduling and access for team use of the facility.
  • Serve as a role model in promoting discipline, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
  • Educate student‑athletes on topics such as nutrition, recovery, and wellness when appropriate.
  • Develop a regular schedule and organize time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student‑athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Activities Director or other appropriate administrator.

Additional Knowledge/Skills/Attributes

Knowledge

  • Current certification from a recognized organization (e.g., NSCA-CSCS, NASM-PES, USAW, or equivalent).
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required).
  • Prior experience designing and coaching strength and conditioning programs, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Knowledge of NFHS, and MHSA rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student‑athletes.

Skills

  • The applicant must possess the ability to communicate in spoken and written word.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of injury prevention, rehabilitation protocols, and return‑to‑play guidelines.
  • The applicant must have experience working with multi‑sport athletes.
  • The applicant must be willing to accept a high level of accountability.
  • The applicant must possess the ability to assess players and coaches effectively.

  • The applicant should be a progressive thinker but a believer in planning and preparation.
