Job Overview The Shelter Logistics Coordinator supports a healthy balance of adoptable animals across all Atlanta Humane locations. The coordinator ensures animals are transported safely and efficiently between locations and supports the intake and movement of animals throughout the shelter network. The coordinator works cross‑departmentally across all operations teams to promote positive outcomes and optimize capacity across all facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate and execute the safe transport of animals between locations to maintain an appropriate population balance of adoptable animals.

Evaluate population levels, kennel space, and adoption trends at each location to make data‑informed recommendations for animal transfers.

Ensure all animals are transported in accordance with shelter protocols, safety standards, and animal welfare best practices.

Communicate with shelter management, veterinary, and behavior teams to ensure proper placement of animals based on medical or behavioral needs.

Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of transport vehicles and promptly report any maintenance issues, damages, or operational concerns to management.

Support the coordination of incoming animal transport.

Accompany the Rehoming and Relocation Coordinator on external pulls, serving as driver or support staff as needed.

Assist in preparing kennels and records for incoming animals to ensure a smooth intake process.

Collaborate with shelter management to assess capacity levels and identify opportunities for redistribution of animals.

Serve as a liaison between locations to ensure timely communication and scheduling of transfers.

Assist with other transportation needs as assigned, including medical, foster, and adoption‑related animal movement.

Qualifications and Requirements

Valid GA driver’s license or ability to obtain one and must be insurable by Atlanta Humane Society’s insurance company.

Flexible schedule; required to drive AHS transport vehicles locally and out‑of‑state and in some cases overnight stays.

Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.

Preferred minimum one‑year animal handling experience.

Self‑starter with ability to work independently.

Preferred knowledge of animal diseases, medications, and treatment protocols.

Preferred knowledge of animal behavior and ability to read animal body language.

Computer literate in a Windows environment.

Ability to utilize effective problem‑solving/decision‑making skills.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive and complex situations.

Willingness to travel and provide program support to other AHS locations and departments.

Ability to travel to partner locations within the Southeast US.

Ability to prioritize tasks in a high‑stress, emotional environment.

Must be able to apply discretion and set aside personal judgement for the betterment of the client and the animals.

Must be able to communicate with and work well with a diverse clientele, different races, ethnicities, faiths, sexual orientations, income levels, etc.

Physical effort requires constant bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs with reasonable accommodations; driving and sitting for extended periods; ability to work in a high noise level area.
