What You Will Do
GFT is seeking a
Highway Staff Engineer / Project Designer
to join our Transportation group in East Brunswick, NJ or Marlton, NJ. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at our East Brunswick or Marlton office.
Working on the roadway team offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. Whether working on highways and bridges or traffic engineering, our team excels in resilient, sustainable design and construction, delivering innovative solutions for modern, multimodal roadway systems.
What You’ll Be Challenged To Do As a Staff Engineer / Project Designer, you’ll support the design and development of roadway and highway projects in New Jersey. You’ll work closely with senior staff to deliver projects for NJDOT, NJTA, and other area agencies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help strengthen client relationships through successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
Assist in the design of roadway projects from concept development through final design phases, including construction support
Prepare engineering plans including horizontal and vertical geometry, typical sections, and cross sections
Develop plan and profile sheets, signing and pavement marking plans, traffic plans, and construction details
Develop quantities, cost estimates, and design reports
Coordinate with utility companies, permitting agencies, and internal/external design teams
Review shop drawings and submittals for contract conformance
Participate in quality control reviews of design documents
Attend agency and public meetings with senior staff
Collaborate with junior and senior engineers on deliverables
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
4–7 years of experience with a strong foundation in transportation engineering and highway design
Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office
NJDOT or NJTA design experience
Strong highway design skills with the ability to train and mentor junior staff
Experience preparing submittals
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) License registered in NJ or the ability to obtain registration within 1 year
Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Compensation The salary range for this position is $100,000–$120,000, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
