Position Overview Electrical Engineer (Staff)

– Full‑time, Staff level. Relocation eligible. Responsible for designing and supporting nuclear plant facilities and other power generation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Lead, providing guidance and expertise over project teams.

Develop design change packages for operating nuclear plant facilities and deliver solutions for a more sustainable future.

Produce electrical drawing deliverables including one‑line and three‑line diagrams, motor schematics, breaker control schematics, wiring diagrams, power cable sizing and cable schedules.

Perform complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis, protective relay settings, battery and charger sizing, interconnection diagrams, and equipment layouts.

Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials for procurement and construction.

Create man‑hour budgets and schedules for projects and proposals.

Attend on‑site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients and provide support during construction.

Extensively use Microsoft Office business systems such as ProjectWise, electrical engineering software (ETAP, SKM) and AutoCAD.

Continuously develop knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies.

Ensure compliance with Black & Veatch quality program and assist with continuous improvement and change management.

Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, perform research, develop recommendations, and manage data for engineering work.

Lead production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activity, and serve as the responsible charge for a project when appropriate.

Support business development or pursuit activities and provide consulting to clients on low‑ to moderately complex projects.

Mentor and develop junior engineers, participating in career planning, recognition, and succession planning.

Assist with resource management strategy and oversee engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline.

Manage administrative responsibilities including ensuring policies, approving timesheets and expense reports, and maintaining adherence to corporate and division programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Kansas or other required states.

Project Lead experience and technical SME in nuclear plant design.

Nuclear power plant facility design experience or infrastructure power distribution design for similar power generating facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program.

Minimum of 5 years related work experience.

Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws.

Work Environment / Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.

Salary Plan / Job Grade Engineering – Grade 016. Salary Plan: ENG.

Locations Candidate must be located or willing to relocate to our World Headquarters in Overland Park, KS (Kansas City) or one of the following regional offices: Ann Arbor, MI; Chattanooga, TN; Cary, NC (Raleigh). Position supports the global nuclear program and requires U.S. citizenship as outlined in CFR 10 CFR 810.
