Wellstar Center for Cardiovascular Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Spring 2026 cohort applications are open until October 31, 2025. The Fellowship is a one‑year post‑graduate training program for nurse practitioners and physician associates who want to specialize in adult cardiovascular medicine. It is a competency‑based program that integrates didactic experiences, immersive hands‑on simulation, practice‑based learning, and professional development activities. Two fellows are accepted each spring and fall.
Program Focus
Clinical synthesis rotations in ambulatory and acute care settings across the Wellstar Health System.
Rotations across cardiovascular service lines: General Cardiology, Ischemic Heart Disease, Heart Failure, Critical Care Cardiology, Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Structural Heart, Electrophysiology.
Fundamental understanding of invasive and non‑invasive cardiovascular diagnostics, imaging, research, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Optional sub‑specialty rotations in aortic program, autonomic dysfunction center, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiovascular behavioral health, cardio‑oncology, and preventive cardiology.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams under guidance of faculty, preceptors, and mentors.
Perform complete evaluations for patients; develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
Provide continuing medical care: daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, procedures, discharge summaries.
Maintain a log of all clinical activity and attend scheduled conferences, grand rounds, and learning events.
Complete assigned reading and online curricula by established deadlines.
Remain current on institutional policies, bylaws, and credentialing requirements.
Collaborate with fellowship leadership to improve program operations and system initiatives.
Complete supplemental certificate courses such as FCCS, POCUS, and Difficult Airway as required.
Participate in interviews of future fellows as requested.
Minimum Requirements
Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in multi‑specialty groups.
Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, listening, and presentation.
Commitment to delivering high‑quality healthcare with exceptional customer service.

Additional Requirements
Graduate of an accredited adult‑gerontology acute care nurse practitioner or physician associate program within the last 12 months or practiced as an advanced practice provider within the last 12 months.
Certification from a national agency: ANCC, AACN, or NCCPA (e.g., ACNP‑BC, AGACNP‑BC, ACNPC‑AG, PA‑C).
Current/unencumbered Georgia license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) certifications.
Professional résumé or CV.
Three letters of professional recommendation: one from a physician, one from a colleague of the same discipline, and one from a nurse practitioner, physician associate, or physician colleague (preferably within a cardiovascular specialty).
Personal statement addressing two prompts: why you are applying and what influenced your decision to pursue a cardiovascular specialty.
Format: one page maximum, 1‑inch margins, 12‑point font, double spacing, include full name.
