Senior System Administrator

We are currently seeking a Senior System Administrator for Apartment Management Consultants (AMC), a leader in the property management industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong generalist background in system administration and a proven specialization in Microsoft 365 tenant and M365 administration. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of both our on‑premises and cloud‑based systems and will serve as a point of escalation for complex help‑desk issues.
Responsibilities System Administration (General)
Administer and maintain Windows and Linux Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
Manage and monitor virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V, XCP‑ng).
Oversee storage solutions utilizing iSCSI, NFS, and SMB.
Configure and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls, switches, and VPNs.
Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Perform routine system health checks, performance monitoring, and patching.
Network Administration
Configure and manage network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, and wireless networks.
Ensure network security through proper firewall configuration and intrusion detection systems.
Implement and maintain remote access across multiple offices utilizing IPSEC VPNs, client VPN, ZTNA, and SD‑WAN.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Microsoft 365 Specialization
Serve as the primary administrator for the entire Microsoft 365 tenant, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams.
Implement and manage Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), including user and group administration, conditional access policies, and multi‑factor authentication (MFA).
Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation, reporting, and administrative tasks across both on‑premises and cloud environments.
Implement and manage security and compliance solutions within the Microsoft 365 Defender and Purview suites.
Collaboration and Support
Provide expert‑level support and serve as the final point of escalation for complex technical issues related to servers, network, and M365 services.
Create and maintain documentation for systems and common support procedures to empower the help‑desk team.
Administer Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams, ensuring mail flow, protection, and user permissions are configured correctly.
Participate in IT strategic planning and budgeting.
Requirements
6+ years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar role.
Demonstrated experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and network administration.
Proven experience with large‑scale M365 deployments, migrations, and administration.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Fortinet products including FortiGate firewalls, FortiManager, and FortiClient VPN.
Familiarity with monitoring tools (Checkmk, Nagios, PRTG, SolarWinds).
Experience with Linux administration (Redhat or similar).
Knowledge of automation and scripting (PowerShell).
Relevant certifications such as MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
Experience in a senior or lead technical role.
Microsoft 365 Certified certifications are highly preferred.
Other relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, or CompTIA Network+ are a plus.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for both on‑premises and Microsoft 365 environments.
In‑depth knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams.
Strong understanding of M365 security and compliance tools (Microsoft Defender, Purview).
Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical solutions to both technical and non‑technical staff.
