Tenure‑Track Faculty Positions (Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida invites applications for the following positions, effective Fall 2025.

Aerospace Engineering

– Preferred candidates should have a background in aeronautics and space, including aero‑ and gas dynamics, aero‑ and space propulsion and combustion, flight mechanics, structures, urban air mobility, orbital mechanics, and aerospace materials.

Mechanical Engineering

– Preferred candidates should have a background in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, robotics, autonomous systems, or data/AI‑driven design.

Responsibilities

Conduct world‑class research in the applicant‑chosen area and publish in peer‑reviewed venues.

Secure and manage externally funded research programs.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and develop curriculum in the departmental mission.

Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral scholars.

Serve on departmental committees and contribute to the academic community at USF.

Qualifications Minimum

Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred

Demonstrated excellence in scholarly research and publications.

Track record of sustaining an externally funded research program.

Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

The cover letter should indicate the applicant’s interest in a specific rank and area of research.

A statement (no more than five pages) of the applicant’s research plans and teaching interests, including a description of broader impacts, must be included.
