Nuclear Medicine Technologist – Elmira, NY
Location: Elmira, NY. Full‑time position with attractive compensation including a sign‑on bonus up to $15,000.
Key Responsibilities
Perform a full range of diagnostic nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology procedures with precision and accuracy.
Conduct quality control testing on imaging equipment.
Review physician orders for appropriateness.
Prepare patients and administer radiopharmaceuticals; insert IV catheters as required.
Acquire and process images using gamma cameras, PACS, and nuclear medicine management systems.
Troubleshoot technical and clinical issues.
Radiopharmaceutical Preparation
Order, prepare, and calculate doses of radiopharmaceuticals.
Manage Tc‑99m kits and bulk supplies.
Ensure quality control and compliance with sterile technique.
Radioactive Material Management
Oversee ordering, receiving, distributing, and storage of radioactive materials and waste.
Ensure compliance with departmental, hospital, and New York State regulations.
Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine
Coordinate with referring offices and radiologists for therapy planning.
Ensure all pre‑testing and documentation is complete.
Administer therapeutic doses safely while following radiation safety precautions.
Mobile Nuclear Cardiology
Travel to physician offices across NY and PA using a mobile gamma camera system.
Safely transport, set up, and operate equipment in varied environments.
Work independently alongside physicians, nurses, and patients.
Patient Care
Provide compassionate, age‑appropriate care for patients ranging from neonates through geriatrics.
Maintain patient safety and comfort throughout all procedures.
Compliance & Education
Participate in accreditation activities and departmental policy compliance.
Maintain continuing education credits and required certifications.
Attend annual training and educational programs.
Customer Service
Demonstrate excellent patient interaction skills by providing care in a friendly, professional, and attentive manner.
Support a positive patient experience throughout the diagnostic process.
Requirements
Current certification or eligibility for certification in Nuclear Medicine by NMTCB or ARRT.
Formal 2‑ or 4‑year degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology (preferred).
Eligibility for New York State Nuclear Medicine Technologist licensure.
Valid driver’s license and insurability.
BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
One year of experience preferred; new graduates may be considered.
