GPD is currently seeking an Underground Utility Locator in our Akron, Ohio office. We are not a utility contract locator, rather a firm dedicated to high-quality underground utility mapping for engineering projects. Applicants must understand the theory and practice of locating underground utilities using electromagnetic and ground penetrating radar equipment. Applicants must also be willing to stay current with their knowledge of new utility locating and geophysical equipment and processes. Day-to-Day Job Responsibilities
Using geophysical multi-frequency and ground penetrating radar equipment to carry out assigned tasks in a timely manner. Reading and interpreting plans, maps, and different types of utility drawings and prints. Heavy lifting of up to 70 lbs. of equipment from truck to site. 8-10 hours working outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, heat, cold, and other adverse conditions. Daily travel to sites, with occasional out of town stays required. Coordinating with the internal land survey crews on various jobs and training on land survey equipment and tasks. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
Minimum of 2 years of experience in utilizing geophysical multi-frequency and ground penetrating radar equipment is preferable but not required. Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and different types of utility drawings and prints. High level of attention to detail. Ability to work with minimal supervision, maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information. Possess good verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of industry specific safe workplace principles and practices. Valid Driver's License and clean driving record is required.
