Overview The Riverside County District Attorney's Office seeks a Senior Victim Services Specialist to support the Division of Victim Services – Claims Unit in Riverside. The Senior Victim Services Specialist provides complex, trauma‑informed supportive services to victims, derivative victims and witnesses of crimes; coordinates victim and witness advocacy with courts, law enforcement and related agencies; serves as a principal advisor and mentor to Victim Services Specialist staff and volunteers; ensures compliance with statutory provisions such as PC 13835 and Marsy’s Law; and performs other related duties as required.

Responsibilities

Engage in research, development of training, outreach and program materials on behalf of the division; plan and develop projects.

Carry out presentations and trainings internally and to community partners, fostering collaboration and alignment across functional teams.

Assist in the orientation, training, and mentorship of Victim Services staff, volunteers and interns; prepare training schedules and maintain records.

Inspire cooperation and motivate peers, providing coaching and feedback to foster professional growth.

Deliver crisis intervention services for crime victims and witnesses using trauma‑informed practices, suicide awareness, and de‑escalation techniques.

Collaborate with collateral agencies (law enforcement, courts, social services, community orgs) to deliver essential services and participate in multidisciplinary committees and community outreach.

Provide essential direct services under California Penal Code 13835.5, including safety planning, case management, crime scene cleanup coordination, restitution assistance, and referrals to the California Victim Compensation Board.

Identify victims with trauma or poly‑victimization histories, conduct assessments, develop tailored interventions, and monitor progress.

Establish rapport with victims and witnesses, providing counseling, advocacy, and educational resources throughout the criminal justice process.

Advocate on behalf of victims, ensuring dignity, courtesy, and rights protection; accompany victims to court hearings and provide victim impact statement assistance.

Educate victims about restitution rights and facilitate documentation for restitution requests.

Provide advocacy and support during law enforcement and prosecutor interviews.

Organize travel arrangements and facilitate emergency assistance for financial hardship per internal policy.

Provide information on criminal justice system processes, monitoring for flaws, and proposing recommendations for systemic improvement.

Participate in the Mass Casualty Crisis Response Team and other special teams/programs as needed.

Maintain records for state, federal, and internal reporting; prepare complex narrative and statistical reports.

Drive a county vehicle as necessary to carry out services.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, preferably in psychology, sociology, social welfare, social/human services, criminal justice, or a closely related field.

Experience Option I:

One year as a Victim Services Specialist with Riverside County District Attorney’s Office or equivalent; three years of case management, supportive or crisis intervention counseling, and advising clients of available programs in a public or private social service or criminal justice agency.

Experience Option II:

Three years of similar experience as above.

Valid driver’s license required.

Knowledge of criminal justice laws and procedures affecting victims and witnesses; public agency and community resources; interviewing and counseling techniques.

Ability to lead and direct volunteer staff, mentor staff, prepare statistical and narrative reports, maintain effective relationships, provide psychological support to reduce trauma, communicate effectively, and promote program projects through presentations.

Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.
