Your Opportunity This position will be working in the field of mechanical engineering on water resource projects, including power, water, wastewater and light‑industrial projects. Candidates should possess strong computer skills, excellent writing and communication skills, and work well in a team environment. The role will support senior engineers on multidisciplinary projects involving new development, modernization, and rehabilitation of hydro‑mechanical equipment for hydro‑power and other water resource projects. The focus is on hydraulic turbines, speed‑governing systems, synchronous generators, turbine shut‑off valves, and ancillary equipment, and coordination with water, oil, and air balance‑of‑plant mechanical systems. Travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct interpretations of drawings, codes, and other materials.
Perform engineering design using relevant software.
Coordinate with other disciplines under senior engineer direction.
Execute field work as directed.
Calculate and analyze individual mechanical system components using company standard and proprietary software.
Assist in data collection to support design decisions.
Perform planning studies, detailed analyses, and designs for hydro‑mechanical equipment at hydroelectric power plants.
Prepare technical specifications for procurement, design, and installation of turbine‑generators and auxiliary systems.
Conduct procurement analysis and design review of hydro‑mechanical systems.
Assess condition of power plant mechanical equipment.
Perform risk assessment, ranking, and life‑cycle costing for mechanical equipment replacement, repair, and rehabilitation.
Review vendor drawings and calculations.
Provide site support for equipment commissioning and testing.
Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
Capabilities and Credentials
Understanding of drafting/design tools such as AutoCAD.
Ability to lead and collaborate in project team settings.
Strong grasp of mechanical engineering concepts and effective communication.
Interpret sketches, drawings, and other materials.
Experience with FEA, CFD, and 3D modeling is a plus.
Follows process and accepts feedback from senior engineers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience in powerhouse equipment design, commissioning, and testing.
Experience with manufacturing methods, NDE, and shop inspection of hydro‑mechanical equipment.
Hydro‑engineering experience for dams, spillways, intakes, and outlets.
Experience in turbine‑generator and valve equipment design.
Experience with turbine selection calculations, mechanical design, FEA and fatigue studies.
Hydro rehabilitation experience, including upgrade planning and design for existing hydro.
Support for hydroelectric planning and development.
Project reporting, budget and schedule management; client interaction.
Proposal preparation experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of plant health and safety requirements and PPE.
Knowledge of plant equipment costs, manufacturing lead times, and sourcing.
Experience with risk assessment and life‑cycle cost of mechanical equipment.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred; PE preferred).
Minimum 3–7 years of experience.
Typical office environment with computer work.
Field work may involve exposure to inclement weather and confined spaces.
Travel typical between 10%–20% of time.
Pay Range Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA, NJ areas – Min Salary: $82,600.00; Max Salary: $119,800.00
