Overview

The Department of Airports is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented accounting professional to join our finance team as an

Accountant I-II-III . Reporting to the Administrative Manager, this position serves as the department’s lead accounting professional, responsible for managing daily fiscal operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting airport budget development, audits, and financial reporting. The Department Accountant oversees accounting for enterprise and special revenue funds, coordinates financial reporting for operating and capital projects, and ensures compliance with County policies, governmental accounting standards, and internal control procedures. This position plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the County’s airport system. This opportunity offers professional growth within the County’s accounting series, with positions filled at the I, II, or III level

depending on experience and qualifications. This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County. What You’ll Do

Perform professional accounting and budgetary work supporting airport operations, maintenance, and capital improvement programs. Establish, analyze, audit, reconcile, and maintain financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and County standards. Prepare, monitor, and analyze annual operating and capital budgets; develop financial forecasts and expenditure projections. Track cash flow, project expenditures, and funding requirements for enterprise and special revenue funds. Manage and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries; ensure accurate fund and project accounting. Oversee fiscal reporting and reimbursement requests for state and federal grants, coordinating with other County departments and external agencies. Assist with annual audits and regulatory reporting, ensuring fiscal compliance and documentation integrity. Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and reporting tools to improve efficiency and accuracy. Provide financial consultation and support to Department management and County partners. (For higher classifications) Supervise and mentor assigned fiscal staff, review work for accuracy, and support professional development. Who You Are

You are a detail-oriented and analytical accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic environment where accuracy and teamwork are essential. You bring sound judgment, initiative, and an understanding of how solid financial management supports safe, efficient airport operations. You enjoy improving processes, solving complex problems, and working collaboratively across departments. You should have: A strong understanding of governmental and enterprise fund accounting, financial analysis, and budget preparation. Experience reconciling complex financial statements and preparing clear, accurate reports. The ability to manage multiple funding sources, ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and meet deadlines with precision. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, leadership, and external partners. Highly desirable experience includes: Knowledge of FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant management, Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) reporting, or other airport-specific funding programs. Familiarity with tenant lease revenue accounting, rates and charges analysis, or capital project financial tracking. Experience supporting financial operations in a public-sector or enterprise fund environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Accountant I:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, including 12 semester units or 18 quarter units of accounting. Accountant II:

The same as above plus one year of experience at a level equivalent to Accountant I. Accountant III:
