Position: Applications Architect — Location: Alexandria, VA — Work Environment: Hybrid — Clearance Required: Secret — Status: Contingent Upon Contract Award Knowesis, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Applications Architect to support the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). This key technical role will lead the analysis, design, and governance of enterprise application architecture, ensuring alignment with mission objectives, modernization goals, and federal compliance frameworks. The Applications Architect will serve as a strategic advisor and hands-on contributor, responsible for evaluating existing systems, recommending improvements, and guiding the development of scalable, secure, and interoperable application solutions. This role requires deep expertise in architectural modeling, system integration, and cross-functional collaboration across technical and business domains. The DoD OIG mission is to detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse in DoD programs and operations; promote the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of the DoD; and help ensure ethical conduct throughout the DoD. The DoD OIG keeps the Secretary of Defense and the Congress informed of fraud, waste, abuse, and program deficiencies identified through its oversight work. The DoD OIG’s administrative and criminal investigators, auditors, evaluators, and support staff operate globally, conducting investigations, audits, evaluations, and mission support activities to accomplish the DoD OIG’s mission. The DoD OIG, OCIO is responsible for installing, maintaining, operating, and supporting all DoD OIG Information Technology (IT) systems and communication capabilities for approximately 2000 end users and over 60 locations around the globe. Due to the independence of the DoD OIG, the OCIO provides the full spectrum of IT services necessary to support the OIG mission including database support, storage management, transition management, application services, mobile device management, IT asset management, domain services, network transport, and service desk. To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess U.S. Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of U.S. Citizenship will not be considered due to the position’s security clearance requirements. Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive analyses of the current application inventory to identify opportunities for modernization, integration, and cost containment. Develop and maintain enterprise application architecture guidelines, standards, and reference models that support business and technology alignment. Create and update architecture diagrams, system models, and documentation to reflect current and planned application states, including software versions and release schedules. Ensure architectural compliance with industry frameworks such as TOGAF, DoDAF, or similar standards. Collaborate with other architects, project managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure application designs align with system models and enterprise architecture. Design and document application layering dependencies, including User Interface, Deployment, Public Interface, Application Domain, Infrastructure, Technical Frameworks, and Platforms. Monitor and validate application component dependencies to ensure system integrity, performance, and maintainability. Provide architectural oversight during system development and implementation phases, ensuring adherence to design principles and integration requirements. Support Agile delivery teams by translating business requirements into scalable and maintainable application designs. Participate in technical reviews, risk assessments, and change management processes to ensure architectural consistency and operational resilience. Recommend tools, platforms, and technologies that enhance application performance, security, and interoperability across the DoD OIG enterprise. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience (minimum 5 years) may be considered in lieu of formal education. Minimum 5 years’ experience in Information Technology environments. Demonstrated ability to perform analyses of the current application inventory, providing detailed application architecture guidelines and recommendations to improve business and technology processes and applications in the interest of integration and cost containment. Demonstrated ability to maintain application architecture and related architecture diagrams and descriptions, including releases and versions of software, ensuring compliance with TOGAF or similar frameworks. Demonstrated ability to design, understand, document, and monitor application layering dependencies (User-Interface, Deployment, Public Interface, Application Domain, Application Infrastructure, Technical Frameworks, and Platforms) and application component dependencies. Proven ability to analyze complex application portfolios and recommend architecture improvements that enhance integration and reduce costs. Strong understanding of application layering and component dependencies across diverse platforms and environments. Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural alignment and system coherence. Familiarity with federal IT standards, cybersecurity requirements, and system lifecycle management. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting federal or DoD programs. Familiarity with CMMI, ITIL, and Agile methodologies. Certifications in TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architecture, or related disciplines. Experience with enterprise architecture tools (e.g., Sparx EA, ArchiMate, Visio, or similar). Key competencies include the following:
