Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for testing production samples on chemistry and automated immunology platforms. This role focuses on IVDR remediation support and ensures testing quality according to departmental standards. The position involves performing both routine and complex procedures, troubleshooting instrumentation, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsibilities are interchangeable within the job titles of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Responsibilities

Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary. Assist with processing of specimens when needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Requirement/Must Have

Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus. High attention to detail with strong communication and organizational skills. Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen. Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs. Qualification And Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology. Must meet regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, and New York State) for high-complexity testing. ASCP or AMT certification preferred. Experience

Minimum of 6 months of pertinent clinical laboratory testing experience required.
