Cleveland Clinic, one of the world's most distinguished academic medical centers, announces a search for a visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology within the Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI).

This is a unique opportunity to lead a nationally recognized department within one of the nation's top healthcare systems. Applicants should be an established or rising star in anesthesiology with an MD/DO, MD/PhD or DO/PhD and at least 10+ years of clinical leadership experience. The successful candidate will also be an accomplished academic leader at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor to guide our department's mission in teaching, research, and service. Board certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is required. The department is one of the largest anesthesiology departments in the country.

Position Overview The Chair will provide strategic, clinical, and academic leadership for a large, diverse department that delivers perioperative anesthesia care across the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, its regional hospitals, and enterprise locations in Ohio and Florida. Oversight includes alignment of clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and academic advancement across all sites within these regions. The Chair will also strategically develop and lead the department, with oversight across Cleveland Clinic's global locations in the United States, United Kingdom, Abu Dhabi, and Canada, as well as within the Cleveland Innovation District. The successful candidate will foster a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity, while advancing the department's missions in patient care, education, and research.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all clinical, academic, and administrative operations of the Department of Anesthesiology.

Recruit, mentor, and develop a diverse team of faculty, residents, fellows, and staff.

Advance quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives across perioperative services.

Collaborate with institutional leaders to drive innovation in anesthesia care delivery and perioperative medicine.

Promote and support research, scholarly activity, and educational excellence, including partnerships with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.

Represent the department within the Cleveland Clinic enterprise and in national/international forums.

Candidate Qualifications

Board certification in anesthesiology and eligibility for licensure in Ohio.

A distinguished record of clinical, academic, and administrative leadership in anesthesiology.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and team‑building skills.

Experience in overseeing and advancing research and education in an academic medical center is highly desirable.

Responsibility for the overall success of the residency, fellowship, and school of nurse anesthesia programs, ensuring that each program meets its educational and operational goals.

About Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI) The Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI) at the Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) is home to nearly 4,000 caregivers and a faculty of over 1,200 physicians and scientists. IHI brings hospital‑based services under one umbrella, integrating five departments and two centers focused on critical care and perioperative medicine, and coordinates activity across locations in the United States, United Kingdom, Abu Dhabi, Canada, and the Cleveland Innovation District.

Compensation Minimum salary: $650,000 Maximum salary: $800,000
