Job Description And Duties The Schools Evaluation and Brownfields Outreach Branch (SEBO), in the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program (SMP), is looking for a highly energetic technical professional who has experience with project management of fast paced environmental investigation and cleanup projects and has an affinity for data mining, analysis and reporting. In this exciting role, the selected candidate will manage complex environmental investigation and remediation projects, review and comment on technical documents prepared by others, direct, oversee, and/or review the work done by contractors, and independently conduct site specific projects.
As a Hazardous Substances Engineer you will have the opportunity to:
Review and/or prepare technical engineering reports and other documents including, but not limited to, Phase I reports, Preliminary Endangerment Assessments, Resource and Cost Recovery Act Facility Assessments, site characterization workplans and reports, sampling and analysis plans, human health and ecological risk assessments, pilot and treatability studies, feasibility studies, remedy selection documents, design, implementation, completion reports, operation and maintenance plans, five-year reviews and long-term monitoring reports for compliance with approved plans
Evaluate site characterization data to support engineering remedial design and implementation
Review or develop process flow and instrumentation diagrams, and design plans and specifications of engineering remedy
Perform statistical and trend analysis on data to define the overall effectiveness of remedial treatment technology
Confirm engineering information, use of correct equations and engineering calculations related to project submittals, and evaluate integration of remedial design with engineering infrastructures for site development
Review or prepare cost estimates to ensure adequate financial assurance mechanisms are in place for the selected remedy and long-term operation and maintenance
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
Background in civil / environmental / chemical engineering or related discipline
Professional Engineer License preferred
Experience in managing multiple projects with sometimes conflicting deadlines
Knowledge of environmental investigation and remediation
Team leadership and project management skills
Technical report writing experience
Oral communication and coordination skills
