Monday – Friday 8am-4:30pm + On-Call Position Summary

A professional nurse registered in the state of assignment with experience in practice of nursing and possessing advanced studies and expertise in administration of nursing services. The Director of Nursing has the authority, responsibility and accountability for structuring, comprehensive planning and implementing the Nursing Services Program that guides the delivery of a quality health care program. Responsibilities

Receives and reviews daily outpatient and infirmary reports. Participates in planning, priority setting and the development of policies and procedures for health care activities that are in compliance with contractual requirements, Department of Corrections, and national standards. Directs planning, priority setting and the development of policies and procedures for the Division of Nursing Services that comply with contractual requirements, Department of Corrections and national standards. Coordinates and monitors orientation, in-services and continuing education within the Division of Nursing Services. Coordinates the development, provision and evaluation of patient care according to the standards of quality care. Conducts recruitment/retention efforts for the division of Nursing Services. Participates in the development and administration of a budget for Nursing Services. Chairs and Infection Control Committee; develops and implements procedures, audits and nursing in-services. Prepares and submits monthly reports to the Health Care Unit Administrator. Conducts regular meetings with nursing staff. Acts as administrator on call for nursing emergencies or nursing staff needs. Responsible for coordinating and providing clinical orientation and nursing in-service training. Member of the Utilization Review Committee and Quality Assurance Committee. Develops and maintains staff schedule for Division of Nursing Service in accordance with contract terms of nursing coverage. Responsible for making changes in time schedules, and granting special requests for time off, if applicable. Develops, implements and evaluates the philosophy, goals and objectives. Ensures the practice of nursing is consistent with current standards, and is responsible for level of care. Serves as representative for, and/or liaison between, Nursing services and other health care providers, as well as Health Care Unit Administrator, and coordinates patient care with other departments. Provides guidance to the nursing staff in patient care problems; delegates responsibility within the scope of the employee’s abilities. Remains visible and is responsive to all medical disciplines. Supports and participates in evaluation designed to improve work conditions and patient care. Evaluates employees’ performance, and maintains accurate care. Participates in, and maintains good relationship with community organizations. Keeps abreast and follows through on incidents occurring on all shifts. Available for conferences on all shifts. Counsels nursing personnel in following established protocols. Reports all communicable diseases to the local/state health authorities. Reviews all discrepancies in sharps and tool counts, investigates, reconciles and forwards written findings to the Health Care Unit Administrator. Review all mediation errors, and forwards written findings to the Health Care Unit Administrator. Responds to applicable grievances, and submits to project director. Assesses established policies, and reviews policies as needed. Submits monthly reports of audits:

Graduate of nursing school required; BSN preferred Preferred Experience:

3 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership nursing role preferred; 2 years of administrative and/or correctional nursing experience can be substituted for BSN. EOE/M/F/D/V
