Head of Audio and MIT– Blue Man Group North American Tour
Audio Engineer
Full-Time Position
December 2025-June 2026 About the Role Blue Man Group, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, is seeking an experienced Head of Audio and MIT to lead the Sound Department for the 2026 North American Touring production. The Head of Audio is responsible for maintaining the show’s audio quality and creative intent across all venues. This position oversees all aspects of sound reinforcement, mixing, playback, and musician monitoring systems, while managing the Audio Department—including the Musical Instrument Technician (MIT)—to ensure consistency, safety, and excellence in every performance.
Key Responsibilities Sound & System Management - Lead the Audio Department to achieve and sustain the desired creative effect for every performance.
- Oversee operation of the sound console for performances, rehearsals, and maintenance sessions, ensuring consistency with the original sound design.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of all sound equipment and systems specific to the production to ensure safe, accurate, and consistent operation.
- Supervise and mentor the MIT and Audio team in setup, calibration, maintenance, and repair of all sound systems, instruments, and playback components, fostering learning and professional growth.
- Implement and document daily inspection and maintenance procedures; ensure all sound equipment is show-ready at each call.
- Work closely with performers to ensure safe listening levels, accurate in-ear mixes, and appropriate sound exposure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently to minimize show impact.
Leadership & Collaboration - Supervise and schedule the Audio Department in coordination with the Production Manager, Technical Direction, and other department heads.
- Provide mentorship, training, and ongoing evaluation for Audio team members, ensuring consistent performance standards.
- Actively participate in post-show notes sessions with the calling Stage Manager and performers; act promptly on audio-related notes for subsequent performances.
- Work closely with the Blue Man Captain to maintain optimal sound quality, balance, and consistency across performances.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager and Technical Direction team to adapt systems to each venue while maintaining creative integrity.
- Serve as the primary Audio contact for touring presenters, venue staff, and local crews.
Administration & Budget Management - Oversee departmental purchasing, inventory, and budget in collaboration with the Production Manager.
- Track expenditures, maintenance, and consumable use; forecast replacement needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, system configurations, and update logs for all venues.
Safety - Champion and enforce all Blue Man Group and CDSEG health and safety policies throughout all performances and backstage operations.
- Ensure the Audio Department follows safe working practices related to electrical systems, rigging, and equipment handling.
- Monitor and manage sound levels and in-ear monitoring safety to safeguard performer hearing and comfort.
- Promote a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of performers, crew, and audience members.
Special Projects & Adaptation - Support and execute sound adjustments for special events, press appearances, and promotional performances as needed.
- Participate in venue evaluations and advance planning for upcoming tour stops.
- Adapt system layouts and mixing approaches to accommodate varying acoustic environments while maintaining creative integrity.
- Perform additional projects and duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Technical Direction.

- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in live sound for touring or large-scale productions.
- Advanced knowledge of digital mixing consoles, playback systems, microphones, RF coordination, and in-ear monitoring.
- Experience leading, training, or managing technical teams in a touring environment.
- Familiarity with Blue Man Group’s performance style and music integration is a plus.
- Must be able to travel domestically for extended periods (Dec 2025–Jun 2026) and maintain eligibility for U.S. employment and travel.
Compensation and Benefits This is a full-time, exempt touring contract offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits during active tour periods.
