We are seeking a Java Developer who will support our NYS client with the modernization of the Integrated Eligibility System. This role will be expected to work with cross‑functional teams to develop robust and scalable applications that improve delivery of critical health and human services programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, Public Assistance, and Child Support. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying robust, scalable, and high‑performance Java applications for enterprise‑level systems. Strong experience in Agile/Scrum environments is a must along with the ability to contribute to both front‑end and back‑end application development.

Duties:

Design, develop, and implement complex, high‑volume, and low‑latency Java applications.

Develop software solutions by analyzing current systems, determining technical requirements, and ensuring designs conform to business goals.

Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to define application objectives, features, and functionality.

Contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from initial analysis to deployment and maintenance.

Identify and resolve immediate and potential technical issues, including complex production problems like memory leaks and network failures.

Recommend upgrades and changes to existing Java infrastructure to improve functionality, performance, and system longevity.

Collaborate on the deployment of new features and monitor for successful integration, ensuring system stability.

Assist in creating and maintaining detailed technical and user support documentation.

Stay up‑to‑date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and introduce innovations where applicable.

Mandatory Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

7+ years of experience on complex projects with 2+ years in a leadership role as a developer.

7+ years as a Java developer, including experience in Java/J2EE, OOP principles, design patterns, and SOLID principles.

7+ years with popular frameworks, particularly Spring (Spring Boot, MVC, Security) and ORM technologies like Hibernate or JPA.

7+ years designing, building, and maintaining microservices architectures and RESTful APIs.

7+ years with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and proficiency with build tools like Maven or Gradle.

7+ years with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.

7+ years with DevOps principles and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.

7 years with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and SQL, as well as NoSQL experience.

2+ years working in federal or state government setting in health and human services, especially Integrated Eligibility System programs.
