Job Description
Structural Engineer PE
– Join Burgess Construction Consultants, Inc. as a Professional Engineer to design residential and commercial structures. The successful candidate will conduct structural analysis, produce detailed drawings and calculations, interact with clients and government agencies, perform field inspections, and train junior staff. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an entrepreneurial mindset are essential.
Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and design for residential, multi‑family, retail, and light commercial structures, including retaining wall foundations.
Create structural design drawings, calculations, and details.
Perform project control tasks—scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
Manage multi‑discipline design and construction projects.
Interact with other engineers, contractors, fabricators, and government agencies.
Provide direct onsite field observations and resolve field conflicts in real time.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with 7‑10 years of practice.
Minimum of 3 years of residential design experience.
Ability to pursue licensure as a P.E. in multiple states.
Requirements
Knowledge of AISC steel manual, ACI 318, ASCE 7, and IBC.
Knowledge of local building codes and requirements.
Experience creating structural drawings/details in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar.
Proficiency with building design software (RAM Structural Systems, Concept, RAM Elements, etc.).
Proficiency with steel, concrete, wood, and precast structure design.
Understanding of related disciplines (mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, surveying).
Willingness to learn and strong communication skills.
Must be willing to travel.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Capability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Ability to travel to various project sites and access construction areas.
