Position Overview The
Assistant Controller
supports the Chief Financial Officer in the management and oversight of the Club’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control systems. This role is integral to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial information, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic financial planning initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive financial professional with strong technical accounting skills, leadership ability, and a collaborative approach to working across departments in a service-driven environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Income Audit.
Prepare and review journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and monthly financial statements.
Assist the CFO in preparing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly, and year-end closings.
Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with
GAAP
and Club policies.
Coordinate with department heads to monitor expense trends and budget performance.
Supervise accounting staff, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
Liaise with external auditors and prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual audits.
Assist in the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and technology improvements (e.g.,
NorthStar ,
BirchStreet , or other ERP systems).
Support special projects and financial analyses as assigned by the CFO.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA certification (or progress toward CPA) strongly preferred.
Minimum
5 years of progressive accounting experience , including at least
2 years in a supervisory or assistant controller role
within hospitality, private club, or similar industry.
Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and audit processes.
Proficiency with
Microsoft Excel
and accounting software; experience with
NorthStar , or
club/hospitality ERP systems
preferred.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
