Description The hiring range for this position is $58,340 - $65,247. The full range for this position is $58,340 - $81,611.

The Corrections Officer is responsible for the security, health, welfare, and safety of inmates housed within the County's correctional facility. This position ensures the effective delivery of correctional services through the enforcement of federal and state laws, county ordinances, and internal correctional policies and procedures. Work involves supervising inmates, conducting screenings and assessments, enforcing rules and facility regulations, and facilitating inmate movements within and outside the facility for court, medical, or community service obligations.

Job Duties

Oversees the care, custody, and control of inmates by transporting and escorting individuals to and from various sites including courts and medical facilities. Screens and assesses inmates' behaviors, attitudes, and custody classifications upon intake and throughout incarceration. Performs regular well-being checks and provides emergency first aid as necessary. Conducts inmate and cell searches, vehicle inspections, and shakedowns to prevent and detect contraband and ensure safety. Supervises inmate activities, enforces facility rules and regulations, and refers inmates to appropriate services or units. Distributes meals, hygiene items, and ensures basic needs are met. Monitors facility operations, including maintaining security systems, testing audio/video surveillance, and tracking inmate movement and visitation. Reports maintenance and safety issues to appropriate departments and assists with facility upkeep, including refilling supplies and preparing cleaning equipment. Completes booking and release procedures, including fingerprinting, documenting personal property, updating records, and coordinating with other agencies regarding court appearances or detainments. Prepares, updates, and maintains a variety of records and reports, such as rosters, time sheets, booking forms, inventory logs, and daily activity reports. Tracks and records community service hours worked by inmates participating in related programs. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Additional certifications in CPR and First Aid may be required or provided upon hire. Supplemental Information

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed within a secure correctional facility with frequent contact and interaction with inmates. Requires the ability to remain alert and responsive in potentially high-stress and high-risk situations. Occasional lifting requirements of up to 75 pounds, and on rare occasions a push/pull requirement of up to 300 pounds with assistance of co-workers. Work may involve exposure to physical threats, noise, verbal abuse, and communicable diseases. Duties may require standing or walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, and performing physically demanding tasks such as restraining inmates or responding to emergencies. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in specific situations. Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations. Knowledge of Court and Probation Rules and Regulations. Ability to understand written and oral directions and instructions. Ability to write legible reports and knowledge of the inmate handbook. Ability to deal effectively with jail occupants, visitors, and other personnel. Ability to perform duties and tasks, and to assign duties and tasks, in an effective, efficient and safe manner. Thorough knowledge of the operations manual and emergency plan. Thorough knowledge of the facilities entire floor plan, including camera and alarm locations. Ability to identify persons with mental problems, and those who may be depressed and/or suicidal. Ability to identify staff personnel by sight and voice, good communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with adverse persons and situations. Additional Information:

Shifts may vary and include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights depending on facility staffing needs. Must pass a physical examination, psychological examination and background check.
