The Role The a16z Growth Fund is seeking a Business Operations Partner to join our team. This full‑time role will work closely with the VP of Operations and the Growth leadership team to drive execution against the fund’s top priorities—ensuring the right projects move forward quickly, cross‑functional efforts stay coordinated, and the operating systems behind the Growth fund continue to scale.
You’ll serve as a critical bridge between our investing team, internal operating groups, and portfolio executives—helping to ensure we deliver consistent, high‑quality support across our network of companies.
This role requires an in‑office presence two days a week in our Menlo Park, CA and San Francisco, CA offices.
Key Responsibilities Drive Portfolio Success
Accountable for project‑managing and delivering proactive and reactive support for Growth portfolio companies
Translate portfolio needs (often emerging from board meetings or strategic discussions) into clear, actionable plans with owners, timelines, and outcomes
Partner closely with internal operating teams (Talent, GTM, Marketing, and others) to ensure the right people and resources are aligned around portfolio goals
Maintain visibility into key follow‑ups, drive accountability, and ensure communication flows seamlessly between founders, partners, and internal teams
Strengthen Operational Excellence
Own the closing business diligence process for new investments, ensuring all operational, legal, and compliance steps are completed accurately and on time
Own and scale portfolio engagement reporting, working in partnership with Ops team members to translate data into clear insights and narratives
Proactively manage information flow, meeting cadence, and team decision‑making to keep everyone moving forward
Help identify and implement process improvements that streamline how the Growth team executes, collaborates, and communicates
Partner with the VP of Operations on ad‑hoc team and firm‑level projects, including internal planning, fund operations, and cross‑functional initiatives
Lead Special Projects
Drive special projects that arise from board meetings, internal off‑sites, or new fund priorities
Support preparation for Growth off‑sites, partner meetings, events, and portfolio reviews
Surface insights from portfolio engagement that can inform broader Growth fund strategy, communications, and portfolio programming
Minimum Qualifications
6+ years of experience in business operations, program/project management, or consulting in high‑growth or complex environments (startup, tech, consulting, PE/portfolio ops, or VC)
Exceptional project management and organizational skills—able to drive alignment across multiple stakeholders and workstreams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to work effectively with senior leaders and external partners
Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills; comfort working in ambiguous and evolving environments
High attention to detail and follow‑through—you do what you say you’ll do, every time
Collaborative, low‑ego, and resourceful—you thrive in service of the team’s success
Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $222,000 – $259,000. The actual starting pay may vary based on experience, skills, and scope.
Role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, and sick leave.
