Business Consultant Job Location: Edmonton, AB

Job Description:

The Business Analyst will facilitate requirements gathering, conduct process walkthroughs, and perform gap analyses to identify business goals and challenges.

This role is responsible for documenting and validating business requirements, supporting change management, and ensuring effective delivery of program changes within an Agile environment.

Responsibilities

Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and conduct process walkthroughs.

Identify goals and pain points through gap analysis on current and future state business processes.

Create, review, and update user stories, personas, and journey maps as applicable.

Develop system use cases, flow diagrams, and interactive mock‑ups outlining functional requirements.

Document and validate results with subject matter experts and drive creation of detailed business and functional requirements specification documents.

Support development of system (non‑technical) documentation and recommend updates to policies and procedural manuals.

Support change management and training to ensure successful delivery of program changes.

Conduct post‑implementation reviews to identify opportunities for backlog refinement and continuous improvement.

Liaise with security and privacy teams to complete threat risk assessments and privacy impact assessments.

Assist with project planning, scheduling, and status reporting as required.

Requirements (Must Have)

Experience documenting user requirements, business processes, and workflows for 5 years.

Experience gathering requirements through interviews, workshops, surveys, site visits, and business process modeling for 5 years.

Experience in a leadership and/or facilitation role for 3 years.

Experience working within a motor vehicle registries modernization project for 1 year.

Experience working within an Agile development environment for 3 years.

Should Have

Demonstrated experience providing business analysis or consulting services in a motor vehicle registries modernization project.

Demonstrated experience conducting gap analyses between legacy systems and modern solutions.

Understanding of Agile frameworks (SCRUM) with proven experience.

Results‑driven mindset with ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Experience using Agile or Hybrid approaches and tools such as JIRA.

Knowledge of complex legislations, regulations, policies, and standards.

Nice to Have

Active professional certification or accreditation in a related discipline from a recognized issuing body.

Knowledge of various software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban, etc.).

Experience evaluating policies, programs, and initiatives using program development principles for 3 years.

Experience gathering requirements from diverse stakeholders across ministries or departments for 3 years.

Experience applying analytical and problem‑solving skills to design creative solutions for 3 years.

Experience in business writing, communication, and documentation for 3 years.

Experience with change management for 3 years.

Qualification And Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline preferred.

Completion of mandatory training, including Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Security Awareness training, is required upon contracting.
