Job Summary

Multiple positions available at either Human Resources Business Partner II, III, or Senior levels. Human Resources Business Partner II (HRBP II)

Facilitates HR processes, ensuring alignment with business goals for assigned units. Provides guidance and policy interpretation on moderately complex HR issues including recruitment, compensation/classification, leave administration, and performance management.

Human Resources Business Partner III (HRBP III)

Serves as a strategic HR partner to assigned business unit(s). Supervises a team of HR staff, driving high‑quality service delivery and fostering continuous improvement. Provides guidance on employees and managers on complex HR issues.

Senior Human Resources Business Partner (Senior HRBP)

Supervises and mentors a team of HR professionals in assigned business unit(s), ensuring high‑quality service delivery and continual improvement. Develops and implements HR strategies that foster a positive organizational culture, improve employee engagement, and support the goals of the business unit(s).

Essential Functions

Human Resources Business Partner II (HRBP II)

Serves as a key point of contact for HR issues within the business unit(s). Interprets and advises managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Collaborates with hiring managers to develop and refine job descriptions, ensuring compliance with FLSA and ADA requirements. Provides guidance on classification and compensation frameworks, partnering with the Compensation team for routine issues. Drives full‑cycle recruitment efforts and advises hiring managers on best practices. Collaborates with Employee Accommodations and Absence Support Team to address accommodation and absence support needs, maintaining communication throughout the leave or accommodation period. Facilitates solutions for straightforward performance management issues; assists senior HR staff with more complex matters. Develops advanced reports and performs data analyses to support data‑informed decision‑making. Assists senior HR staff with implementation and evaluation of training programs, professional development initiatives, and key HR projects. Partners with HR functional areas and campus departments to improve coordination, efficiency, and consistency in HR processes. May supervise HR staff.

Human Resources Business Partner III (HRBP III)

Provides expert guidance on complex HR matters, ensuring legal compliance. Supervises a team of HR staff, coaching them toward high‑quality service and operational excellence. Engages with senior leadership to determine HR needs and proactively address complex challenges. Participates in short‑term strategic planning and staffing plans. Advises managers on collective bargaining agreement application and performance expectations; leads grievance meetings and investigations. Provides guidance on classification and compensation frameworks, partnering with Compensation for complex pay issues. Develops and executes comprehensive talent acquisition strategies, guiding hiring managers on recruitment planning. Evaluates training and development needs; recommends or leads programs and initiatives. Collaborates with Employee Accommodations and Absence Support Team on accommodation and absence support needs, maintaining ongoing communication. Uses HR data insights to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Acts as liaison between departments and HR business centers for solution design and implementation.

Senior Human Resources Business Partner (Senior HRBP)

Supports HR transformation initiatives and strategic planning, driving change aligned with the university’s strategic plan. Leads HR strategy, setting priorities, and ensuring efficient execution of programs and processes. Provides guidance on recruitment, benefits, onboarding, compensation, engagement, training, labor relations, and talent management. Leads and supervises a team of HR staff, coaching for continuous improvement. Creates long‑term staffing plans, succession planning, and retention programs. Manages employee exit process, analyzing exit data to improve the employment life cycle. Stays current on employment law, participates in investigations, and ensures compliance. Leads collaborative initiatives with HR business centers and campus leadership to integrate strategic HR solutions.

Bachelor’s degree. Minimum Qualifications by Level

HRBP II : Four years of human resources experience. HRBP III : Six years of human resources experience. Senior HRBP : Eight years of human resources experience. Physical Demands / Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. This position has the opportunity for a

hybrid work schedule , defined as regular work at a non‑campus location part of the week, subject to the Non‑Unit (Professional) Employee Personnel Policy. This position has the opportunity for a

remote work schedule , defined as work from a location other than UMass Amherst campus, subject to the same policy. Salary Information
