Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and coordinates professional development events, workshops and training sessions for faculty and teaching assistants for the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and Faculty Mentoring Program (FMP).

Plans pilot programs for faculty professional development programs by researching professional development needs, conducting outreach, publicity and evaluation plans for these programs.

Researches and makes recommendations on topics for events, courses and trainings attended by Teaching Assistants and/or Faculty, and researches potential presenters for each topic.

Serves as liaison between OFDAS, faculty, teaching assistants, and other attendees/presenters for upcoming events, resolves moderately complex situations that arise, and maintains contact list of attendees, cohorts, and presenters.

Responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies for upcoming events and programs that utilizes various types of media (i.e. handouts, websites, video, etc).

Designs and edits informational fliers and other handouts; creates and updates webpages for announcements, details of the events and to facilitate enrollment for attendees.

Maintains social webpages for the programs.

Responsible for the design, maintenance and development of the CTE and FMP websites, including posting of program-related information and announcements in a timely manner to keep users up-to-date.

Analyzes websites' statistical reports to determine faculty usage patterns; utilize the websites for teaching evaluation registration systems, and links to other web resources for faculty.

Responds to inquiries from UHM departments regarding navigation through department websites and resolves problems associated with access to the online event and teaching evaluation registration systems.

Works with the presenters to ensure that technology needs are available for the presentations, the venue is properly set up, and handouts are prepared in advance. Distributes post-event resources, materials, and videos to attendees.

Supervises and trains volunteers to ensure duties are properly assigned and event runs smoothly; resolves moderately complex situations that may arise before, during and after the event.

Oversees the compilation of course evaluation data and reporting of evaluation results; trains student assistants in the processing of the course evaluations; updates electronic evaluation system as necessary; and ensures confidentiality of evaluation materials and results.

Manages, maintains and updates the multi-office database system to increase the productivity and effectiveness of the programs.

Compiles, analyzes, and evaluates database reports, including professional development programs, course evaluations and teaching assessments.

Researches and formulates policy recommendations for the Director on how faculty professional development programs impact particular student populations.

Produces digital videos of events, workshops and training sessions; integrate these videos into teaching and research resources.

Collaborates with the faculty specialist to develop and innovate future programs, including, but not limited to new instructional assessment services for faculty teaching in online, hybrid, web-based, and/or digital formats; new professional development materials for faculty to teach students digital information literacy skills and a new technology mentoring program by and for faculty.

Responsible for the design and management of information systems to reconstruct professional development resources for faculty.

Strategizes with the Director over the design and execution of annual budget and programmatic plans.

Designs, expands and maintains a library of faculty resource materials, including a teaching awards dossier library, and a tenure and promotion dossier library for faculty.

Oversees the implementation of university policies and internal office procedures and trains staff to use information systems, including the multi-office database.

Supervises and trains student assistants on internal procedures and various tasks including, but not limited to, program and events planning and promotion, information management systems, and the production of professional-quality workshop materials for faculty and teaching assistants.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Business Administration, Liberal Studies and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program management and support; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of program management areas as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with program management.

Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

Desirable Qualifications

Possession of a Master's degree in Education, Administration, Liberal Studies, or related field.

Familiarity with current and foundational issues involved in strategizing, developing and innovating faculty development in higher education.

Ability to conduct research on higher education issues, to use statistical software, such as SPSS, and to generate statistical reports.

Demonstrated knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS and web editing software such as Adobe Dreamweaver.

Working knowledge of software such as Adobe Creative Suite and online cloud-based applications (i.e. Google Docs, Forms, Analytics, Zoom).

Familiarity with the institutional culture of the university system, particularly of the University of Hawai`i at Manoa campus.
